How to keep extended desktop with closed lid ?

Hello, I am using an external monitor in the "Extended" desktop mode. As soon as I close the lid of my Latitude 5511, the desktop mode changes to "Second screen only". Opening the lid switches back to "Extended", but all windows which were on the extended desktop are on the laptop screen.

Is there a way how to keep the "Extended" desktop mode with the lid closed? I have the close lid option set to "Do nothing" in both battery and plugged regimes in Windows 10.

It turned out that there is a way to keep the laptop display on when closing the lid. In BIOS, Power Management, there is an option Lid Switch. When disabled, the display stays on even with the lid closed.

Another positive thing about this option is that if laptop is in the sleep mode and lid is opened, the sleep mode continues, which is something I want.

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

@Jirina  No, that behavior is controlled by the display/system firmware. This difference in behavior occurs with external displays too. Some remain present to the display when they are switched to a different input or powered off (as long as they remain connected to a power source of course), while others essentially become disconnected in those cases. There are pros and cons to each. I wrote about this a bit here if you’re curious.
