Install windows XP with windows 7 already installed

Hello! I have a Dell Latitude D505 with windows 7 installed. Unfortunately, this has caused the computer to not function and I wanted to wipe the hard drive and put XP back on it, but try as I might, it doesn't work. Can I have some advice?
