Latitude 5420 with missing Standard SATA AHCI driver

Hi all!

The following applies to at lesat two separate computers (but probably all) of the last batch of 5420's we received last week.

I can't find any driver anywhere for the following SATA AHCI-controller with a yellow exclamation mark in my device manager:

System info:
Latitude 5420 (SKU: 0A20 with 11'th gen i5)

Current driver:
Microsoft 2006-06-21 (v. 10.0.18362.1110)
I find this driver version and date very odd.

Driver/device error:
"This device cannot start" and "I/O device malfunction" (error in Swedish. translated freely)

HW-ID:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A0D3&SUBSYS_0A201028&REV_20
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A0D3&SUBSYS_0A201028
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A0D3&CC_010601
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A0D3&CC_0106

Compatible HW-ID:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A0D3&CC_0106
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A0D3
PCI\VEN_8086&CC_010601
PCI\VEN_8086&CC_0106
PCI\VEN_8086
PCI\CC_010601
PCI\CC_0106

For any further information about system or received errors please ask and I will supply them!

Spoiler
Hello from Germany to Sweden!

Pls download the Deployment CAB file for your device form here:

https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER06798846M/1/5420-win10-A00-738NG.CAB

extract the CAB to a temp directory using 7zip. winzip, winrar...
reinstall the driver using device manager, select the device, and point to the temp dir where you extract the CAB files. Thats it

Best regards

Peter

I have the same issue: no driver will apply.

We usually use the FamilyDriverPacks, but there seems to be an issue - it loads the latitude 5420rugged package (but maybe it's the same).

The suggested cab file from the 5420 download page does not apply, too.

When I try to install the Intel Rapid Storage driver it tells me that the platform is unsupported.

At the moment I try to install via Dell Command Update but the updater did not detect an available storage driver, only Intel Management and a network driver update.

If it does not work - as I expect - I will come back and post again.

Bye!

Marco

Hi!

The suggested solution had already been tried, but I tried the CAB suggested to still no avail as no working driver for the device can be found.

Hello,

Please install the following drivers:

Intel Chipset: http://del.ly/6603HSDa7

I/O Driver: http://del.ly/6604HSDaC

IRST: http://del.ly/6605HSDah

Still the same errors in Device Manager?

Regards,

Martin

Hi!

IRST driver gave "Unsupported platform" and closed. Tried supplied driver from supportsite based on service-tag, but with no luck.

Chipset and I/O-driver gave nothing so errors in device manager persists.

Is there any external device connected to the system?

None.

These are being prepared for deployment within our organisation. We currently got 30 of these but as long as we are not getting this issue resolved we are at a stand-still.

Only things connected are power supply and Ethernet cable.

None of the drivers helped? You are using Windows 10 Version on the devices?

Using Windows 10 for sure. I have got one using our deployment image, and one using a fresh 20H2 "vanilla" install. Same issue on both.

As I stated in my original/first post, no drivers works. None!

As I understand the level of support here and from what I have read elsewhere, this must be a a driver related issue from Dell with this new chipset and subsequent hardware..

Hopefully this will be rectified with an upcoming/refreshed driver pack...
