Service tag does not display anymore the original configuration ?
I am discussing with someone about buying his defective Dell Latitude E5550 (with docking station connector). The system does not start anymore (motherboard defect, possibly with liquid damage). The hope is that I can repair the motherboard if I find something with power conversion mosfets and if I cannot, at least I can reuse the screen and sell the battery to recover some of my expense. Other reusable parts such as the harddrive, memory and power adapter are retained by the owner. The problem is the owner claims is not technical and cannot tell me the screen resolution and also cannot tell me if this contains a Gen4 or Gen5 CPU (E5550 was release with both). He gave me the Service Tag with which I can see the system is out ow warranty since July 4th 2016 but I cannot see the configuration it was sold initially. I remember clearly a few months ago in a similar situation I could see the original configuration just fine. But now the components section is just empty (tried with both Chrome and Mozilla). This despite recent (Jan 2018) Dell instructions about how to see an original system configuration. Anyone knows something about the support site of dell not giving out this information anymore ?

zita212,
If you send me in a private message the system service tag I can send you the information. When I add my tag on the site it shows my configuration. I am not sure why it isn't showing you the tag configuration.

There are too many red flags here -- it's too risky a purchase. Run away - now.
