I have a 9360 Developer Edition with stock hardware (512GB NVMe), all default options, and pre-installed Ubuntu. After upgrading to 1.2.3, I can't boot anymore with the same error people have been reporting: the device isn't recognized anymore at boot time (and by default jumps to Dell's Support Assist for memory testing instead).
Thanks @kavirondo. Be interested to hear anyone running Yakkety with default (4.8) Kernel who has successfully done the upgrade - & I guess an explanation of why some users (e.g. @nomo1) report disk not recognised problems after upgrading on similar/same hardware..
I have a DE but update via software center hadn't worked for me to. I guess because Dell did something wrong. For more details and instructions please look at
Actually @kavirondo, I'd be grateful if you could share your process for BIOS upgrade, as I've not done this before. Dell's instructions here say "Ubuntu 16.04 and later natively will notify you for BIOS updates" but I have had no such notification - I guess this may apply to Dell installed Linux (Sputnik/DE) unlike yours/my setup? Anyhow, will follow the BIOS flashing from USB instructions there unless I hear differently.
I used the same method, and the BIOS update worked just fine, I don't think that's the issue. This whole thing is weird, I don't know if it's a bug in the BIOS, or something related to specific hardware... But it would be good to hear from Dell.

But I suppose to ask support why automatic updates doesn't work. I think it's supposed to work and Dell should fix it
The issue is that the GUID for this platform's BIOS changed. We've identified the root cause, and there'll likely be a transitional update with the old GUID to handle the GUID change. That transitional update would be provided on LVFS.
Used the same info from link in post from @basteed, the official dell instruction.Didn't get a notification that there was newer firmware, so used the manual method with USB stick. Real easy. Instruction form @Yury is the same in essence. Both thanks for sharing.

I propose to wait for fix if you haven't any major issues with current version

I'd recommend not upgrading BIOS to 1.2.3.

I have a 9360, 16gb ram, 512gb NVME SSD. Machine came with windows 10 home
I run Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety. The machine had bios version 1.0.7
I upgraded to Bios 1.2.3.
Not even 1 problem. Ugraded bios fine, and booted fine. Hard drive works perfectly. Been using it for 3 weeks now.
Hope that helps.
By the way I run Ubuntu Mainline Kernel 4.9, and that has really fixed any touchpad / screen issues.

I also would be interested in what the process is for those that were unable to purchase a DE.

I used the bios update method posted by @yuri.
Worked fine.

I just updated the BIOS of my 9360 to 1.2.3. I have no boot problems with the nvme SSD.
However the hdmi/vga over usb-c/thunderbolt does not work anymore. If you need external monitors/projectors, than you should maybe hold off for a bit.
(Antergos with 4.8.13-1-ARCH kernel here).
