Dell 5510 - latest update with Nvidia 367.57 is broken - cannot login after entering password

Received the latest update that had the Nvidia drivers 367.57 and after that it's impossible to enter Unity.

Entering the password gives a black screen and returns to login screen.

Reverted to a previous backup using timeshift,

Is this happening only to me?

Any suggestions?

Update: I'm not the only one with this problem:

Hi,

I'm having the exact same problem, on the same laptop. Did you find a fix? Jared, Barton? I can't use my computer!

Please help.

Thanks,

Santiago.

No solution so far.

I was lucky to be using TimeShift. With it I easily restored to a previous restore point.

Will try again in a few days.

In the meantime I'm unchecking NVidia when updating Ubuntu.

@Community,

Just received this temporary work around:

  1. Press Ctrl + Alt + F1 to get to a console login
  2. Enter user name, password.
  3. Execute command “sudo prime-select nvidia”
  4. Execute command “sudo service lightdm restart”
  5. After above process you should be able to login
