Hi. I have no updates in this regard. All I know is, unfortunately, that the latest XP is (so far it seems) the only machine certified for 20.04 and thus the only one likely to as of yet benefit from Tier1-Support, which means if you were to try and install vanilla 20.04 on such a machine, Ubuntu would detect it and offer to install it in the shape of an OEM customized version. Which is, in a way, also a nice way to in the future maybe ditch the recovery partition, since the Dell customizations would come directly from Ubuntu...

let's wait and see what happens when the point release date nears.... I have hopes that they will by that date have dealt with all issues that have arisen so far and that they might be able to back-certify some older machines

I have the XPS 13 9300 non developer edition. I can confirm that ANY Ubuntu based version of Linux such as Mint/PopOS!/Kubuntu/Lubuntu etc works out of the box and that 2 Dell specific repos and 3 hardware drivers are installed by default.

I have the IR camera for face login working with howdy, the fingerprint reader working and 3 and 4 finger gestures working on the trackpad with Fusuma (google fusuma github). Here is more info:

Can you share more details on the 2 repos and 3 hardware drivers?  Are they they ones listed as public and oem in this script:  https://github.com/jules-ch/Ubuntu20-Setup-XPS13/blob/master/setup.sh

I'm running ubuntu 20.04 LTS on an new Insprion 5400 and wondered if those repos might have better drivers for mine as well.  It would be nice if I could configure the repos on my laptop and see if they work for me, too.

Looking at the list of directories in the Dell repo, though, suggests I have to know what codename my hardware is before I can try one.

These codenames are interesting. And I wonder however what happens once point release day is here (this weekend).....

I wish Dell was a bit more communicative and transparent regarding all this

I gave up trying to figure out what the codename for my HW could be, I couldn't find any leads.  It would be nice if Dell gave some pointers on that.

I can live without the fingerprint sensor support for now, I'm sure that'll get added upstream at some point soon.  Everything else seems to be working well, from what I can tell.

Yea Kudos to Dell for even investing so much resources on their Linux support, but I do wish their customer relationship management were a bit better in that regard.

As for myself, I am gonna wait until the point release is out before I try anything. On the other hand, my warranty has expired anyway (curiously, it expired way before the LTS release....).... would be great if they would certify all their old models for the new LTS too to benefit from this tier1-support functionality

I have an Inspiron 7550, what's the status of Ubuntu 20.04 on it, anyone know if it's safe to upgrade to it?

I upgraded with my m4800 from 18.04 to 20.04 in the that this may solve to issues I had: Bluetooth not working and keyboard not accepting AltGr + other key, but it didn't. Any idea? Thank you in advance!

I am trying to find out if I can get an Vostro 15 5502 and install 20.04 LTS myself. It is apparently supported per Canonical's FAQ page. Well, I know I can do that, but can I install the OEM version? I was not satisfied that the chat rep knew whereof he spoke and hate to just give up. It is $300 cheaper than the XPS 13...

Thanks.

I have an Inspiron 5490 with a Goodix Fingerprint sensor (27c6:538d) that is not working on Ubuntu 20.04 due to the lack of a driver.

I found many posts suggesting adding repositories and installing libraries, but they all are about the XPS 13 (aka Somerville Melissa platform). I should use the appropriate repo for my hardware, but I don't know its codename.

So, I wish to try the Ubuntu image certified for my system (as listed here), but I could find where to download it from.

Can anyone help me make this sensor usable to unlock the Gnome session and respond to sudo commands, please? Can anyone tell me what is the codename for my platform?

Hi, I know this is an old post, but wondering if you mean: You disabled Dell wifi drivers in Ubuntu?

And if so, how?

Thanks.

I can give you the repos and even info about specific packages but I dont know if those in use on my 9300 will work on your laptop which is a different model.

@raynerpireshttps://askubuntu.com/questions/1291500/looking-for-linux-driver-for-goodix-fingerprint-reader-27c6538d-on-dell-inspir/1499744#1499744

I commented here on how i managed to get this fingerprint scanner to work on my Ubuntu 23.10.  It's not without its dangers, though and it may be less secure than it usually is with supported drivers. But at least now i can unlock my pc with my finger and same goes for sudo passwords. Still, be weary
