I have the same model and in the first day i notice serious wifi issue with the version of ubuntu shipped, i can't neither connect to my wifi. Then I installed arch linux with 3.12 (now 3.13), no problem at all. Good speed and good receiving.
I suggest you to update the kernel, maybe also with mint the situation will be better.
I had this issue with ubuntu 13.10 upgraded to 3.12 kernel (to fix the touchscreen).
It wasn't quite behaving as above. One day recently the internet just decided to stop working for 1-2 minutes. TCP connections would stay alive, but I could refresh a web page repeatedly to no avail. dmesg also was bare.
I just updated to 3.13 (which will be included in the next ubuntu LTS due next month), the problem seems to be resolved.
