Controlling Lights on XPS 1710 with Ubuntu 9.10

Have installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my XPS 1710 laptop and it's working beautifully; however, those blasted lights and pour out of every orifice in the computer are now fixed on that annoying red that makes it look like it's ready for lift-off.  Under Windows these lights are controlled via software.  Sure would be nice to be able to turn the darned things off under Linux.  Anyone know where I can find this animal?? ... Please!!
