E521 AMD64, Bios 1.1.6, Ubuntu Dapper : 8254 Timer Problem
At times, my E521 (Bios 1.1.6 , 2 * 80 GB HDDs ext3, no RAID, no additional cards) will not start Ubuntu 6.06. It loads Grub, goes to the Ubuntu Dapper's graphical mode and stops there immediately, the progress progress bar remains empty, at "running scripts/init.premount...".
When I then reboot with ctr&alt&del it always starts Ubuntu Dapper flawlessly. I found out that the E521 refuses to start Ubuntu, if it does'nt show the kernel message about the "8254 Timer not connected".
I have tried acpi=noirq and/or aci=off and/or enable_8254_timer but no avail ...
