Inspiron 1720 Wireless Problem (Broadcom 4311) Not acting the same with Win/Lin.
Hi everyone,
Last year I bought a DELL laptop (Inspiron 1720), which went with Windows Vista installed on it. To get better performances, I thought I could try Linux Mint 5.0 (based on Ubuntu 8.04).
On Windows, everything was working fine (except the overall speed). On Linux, for the same locations/distances, the wireless network can't get connected and/or keep the connection alive. If it says the connection is still established, it's apprently often not the case, since I can't ping any server. If I move near the window, the connection has a chance to work well for a longer period of time.
I've asked on the Linux Mint forum, and it seems I'm not alone with this problem (wireless card working better on Windows than Linux), but no one came up with a solution.
The card is Broadcom 4311 (on the invoice: Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini-Card).
Anything to be done with this? Other than going back to Windows?
The firmware was installed by Linux automatically... The card works, but can't keep the connection at the same distances it could before installing Linux. (Don't ask me how changing the OS interferes in this!)
Thanks!
Audrey
