Linux on OptiPlex 745?
I am considering a OptiPlex 745 but I only want to run Linux (Gentoo).
Is anyone running Linux on the 745 yet?
It will be an expensive mistake if I find that I can't install the operating system on my shinny new box.
Regards
Hippysurfer

I would say the answer is
No.
and
No.
Linux vendors arent given the same inside information that microsoft is given.
Drivers take time and they are always behind.

I don't know why everyone is negative on uisng Linux on an Optiplex 745. I bought one off the internet without a HD and put the HD from an old E machine in it. I was running Fedora on the E machine, and since have run several flavors of Linux on the Optiplex 745. I am presently running Mint 17.2. The only problem I've had was with the intel onboard graphics chip - diagonal break line from top left to bottom right of monitor. Fixed it with a cheap graphics card. I'd put Linux on my wife's Optiplex GX620, but she likes FreeCell, a windows game. Anyone know where I can get a copy for Linux? Todays date April 18, 2019.

Current Versions of UBUNTU are fine for GX620, GX745,GX755 , GX760, GX780 etc.
http://releases.ubuntu.com/18.04/ubuntu-18.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso
Early releases had issues. As long as you have at least 2 gigs of ram its fine.
