Ubuntu Linux with Dell 1370WLAN, chipset BCM 43xx.

Ubuntu Linux doesn't work with this wireless card (or it works intermittently, very unreliable). Please can someone recommend a slot-in wireless card that does work perfectly every time? thanks.

I have a Dell Latitude D600 with the BCM 43xx wifi card installed. I used the bcm43xx driver and fw-cutter utility to get mine working under Mandriva 2007.

Look here...

Although this is actually for dapper, the general process works very well, the main difference is that instead of installing ndiswrapper-utils, you now install ndiswrapper-utils1.9 for feisty.

Thank you, thank you JTorres176 (05-04-2007) for referencing the link to Dave's procedure! Worked for 3 days trying to get Broadcom's internal wireless Mini-PCI card working (I'm a Linux newbie). bcm43xx-fwcutter didn't work...almost gave up, then found your posting. Can't believe I succeeded. Glad Dell will sell pre-installed Linux because I can't picture tech support walking someone through this on the phone. Let's keep the Dell Linux support forum going too. I did notice the similarities to Dave's procedure on this help page: http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/joomla/index.php?/component/option,com_openwiki/Itemid,33/id,installation/ Other suggestions to add to Dave's procedure (otherwise no change): BCMWL5.SYS and bcmwl5.inf files were retrieved from Windows\system32\... Used Synaptic to install ndiswrapper-utils1.9 for feisty. I milk my PCs for more than just a few years. MS XP was finally a decent OS, but Ubuntu Linux flies with only the 512 MB RAM. My configuration: 3 year old Inspiron 8600, Windows XP SP2 Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02) Subsystem: Dell TrueMobile 1300 WLAN Mini-PCI Card

Use ndiswrapper with the bwm5*.inf file you should see in the c:/drivers/network/addins folder. the 1370 in my 6000 works fine in PCLinuxOS when I load that driver using ndiswrapper.
