Networking Problem: Destination Host Unreachable

This is a strange problem ( at least for me)

[root-mid3 root]# ping 10.1.254.161

PING 10.1.254.161 (10.1.254.161) 56(84) bytes of data.

From 10.1.254.163 icmp_seq=0 Destination Host Unreachable

The server mid3 (10.1.254.163) cannot find mid1 (10.1.254.161)

either by name or ip address. It can find any other machine on my network or any Internet address

I can also get to mid3 FROM any other address on my network including mid1 !!

This is what the arp cache looks like

[root@mid3 root]# arp -a -n

? (10.1.254.254) at 00:00:0C:07:AC:01 [ether] on eth0

? (10.1.254.161) at on eth0
