What is needed to wipe XPS 13 and install fresh Ubuntu OS?
I have an XPS 13 9343 running Windows 10 and, frankly, I am done with Microsoft.
I would like to reformat this machine and install a fresh Ubuntu version. I wonder if any of you here can provide some technical insight? For instance, knowing that there isn't an official Dell Linux distribution for this machine, would there be one for hardware close enough to make a good starting point?
Otherwise what specific Dell software is needed? Drivers for 4K touch screen? Audio? Touch pad? All of that?
Is there detail documented somewhere addressing such things?
I have a lot of experience with operating systems (even in writing them). I've started out on a PDP-8L in 1970 and am very much still active coding, etc. so....
Where can I get the technical considerations for this conversion? I would be very surprised if there aren't folks here that can help.
Many thanks in advanced for any discussion that follows.

Here's a good link from Ubuntu: certification.ubuntu.com/.../
It's very likely that a modern Linux distribution like Ubuntu will support your laptop completely out of the box. I would try running an Ubuntu Live CD and just see if the hardware is working correctly.

I understand that you are done with Microsoft and especially with Windows 10. If you are still angry with Win10, you might give Win7 a chance by following this guide:
www.solvist.de/.../
I did so and i am enjoying my XPS 13 9350 with Windows 7, i see there is also a Win7 driver pack for XPS 13 9343 out:
en.community.dell.com/.../8092.xps-13-9343-windows-7-driver-pack
Maybe this is an option, otherwise you might try Linux MINT, i did this with my Intel NUC and it is working like a charm, but for business reason i need to stay with Windows 7 on my Laptop but *** no Windows 10 at all!

apt install the following packages:

Thanks _gerben_! I purchased my Dell Vostro-15-3568 machine with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS installed. When I updated for the new release 17.10, it crashed. I tried to fresh install Ubuntu 17.10 which actually installed with graphics issues. I had to hardcode screen resolution and mouse wasn't working fine with it so I had to re-install 16.04 with Dell Recovery CD. I feel I can try now with the list of packages to install provided by you. Thank you so much.
Best Regards,
