1908FP vs SP1908FP

I have a 1908FP which i dislike because, in comparison to the 4 other LCD monitors currently in use at home and in the office, the colors are washed out and the text is weak.  I spent over an hour on the phone with Dell tech support and after many various attempts for improvement, replaced the monitor.  The new monitor isn't any better.  Dell is willing to again send another monitor but I feel the new one likely wouldn't be any better.

Would exchanging the 1908FP for an SP1908FP with Truelife and no anti-glare coating have a better display quality and nice vibrant colors like my other LCD's?  The colors on the 1908FP look pretty good if you want to view the monitor from below looking up - which I don't!  If only I could turn the monitor upside down it would be perfect.

sueanrf,

Did you test the 1908FP on other PCs to see if the issue was with the monitor or the video cards?

Did you test both the DVI and the VGA ports on the monitor?

Did you Reset the monitor to Factory Defaults?
* Press the Menu button on the front of the monitor
* Press plus or minus to move to Factory Reset
* Press the Menu button
* Press plus or minus to move to All Settings
* Press the Menu button

Chris - I went through every exercise you can think of with the Dell tech support person such as:  different VGA cable (no DVI on Opti 320), updated the bios, tried monitor on a different computer in another room under different lighting, made menu adjustments on the monitor including a factory reset.  The only thing we did not do was make color adjustments via the video card because tech support said problem wasn't the video card since monitor color didn't change on a different computer.  Do you think exchanging for a SP1908FP would resolve this washed out color issue?

Can you tell me if there is a difference in display/color quality between the monitors?  I know I'll be able to make an exchange as it was a recent purchase.

Thanks.

sueanrf,

That is hard to say. The only differences between the two are the Faceplate coating and the Backlight.

I can not find information on the backlight differences. Could you please give me some references ? Does any other person know the differences between those 2 monitors ? SP1908FP is not an UltraSharp while 1908FP is .

Now I think I have understood what ChrisM said. The panels and backlights are different and those together make a big difference !
