2001FP DVI Cable use with a Regular VGA Port?

Just got my new 2001FP and I'm loving it.  It really is a wonder screen.

I don't have a DVI port on my PC so I'm currently using my Regular VGA Cable.   Any possibility I could use the included DVI cable if I got a converter plug for the end that goes into the PC?

If so, any benefit to this picture quality wise?

Mainly, I want to do this so I can connect my older PC via the VGA port.

Am I barking up the wrong flat screen or is this possible to do.

Thanks All.

I wouldn't waste the money. That is a good monitor. I doubt that you would see any improvement in picture quality. Some quality would be lost with a converter as in translation something is always lost. I've tried both digital and analog cables as my computer as it and my 1704FPT supports both. I can't tell any difference in quality.

DVI is a function of the video card, not the cable. So to answer your question directly; no, you could not adapt the cable to get DVI.  You cannot input VGA either into the DVI-I port on the monitor.  You could make a small investment in a later video card with DVI output on one of the PC, most, even lower cost units today, have them.  As far as image improvement, yes, there is greater pixel stability and control with DVI, plus the signal is not being converted back and fourth as it is with the VGA output. However, how much improved is arguable and depends greatly on the system itself, available memory, processor speed, video adapter memory or speed.  I find the image very satisfactory with VGA on both this 1901 and my earlier 1900FP, but improved in gaming and imaging with DVI off a Radeon 9800 Pro card on my Shuttle SB75.  In text you will see little or no difference probably, depending on size and font. All above based on using the native or optimal resolution for the monitor.

P.S. Just to let you know, I also recently saw a 2001FP at the Dell kiosk, and decided to get one myself. Good deal right now at  Home Sys, under 670 bucks and free shipping! Saw it at 25% off awhile back at Small Biz, but no free shipping, so it is almost a wash.
