2001FP contrast control setting not available

i connected new FP2001 today to a homebuilt AMD XP based system with VIA 4in1 drivers. The new Moniter is fine in almost all ways but one control for contrast.

Symptom :'
i press button #4 labeled "brightness / contrast"
the control comes up with menu selections for :
    EXIT
    Brightness
    Contrast

The brightness control works fine but the contrast is not accessible or i am unable to use the "+" "-" controls to give it focus. Its like a Windows dialog where it is "greyed out" and not accessible.

Im using the Mode "DVI-D" and my control panel in windows  for "hardware devices" says that the monitor is "plug n play" monitor.

My graphics card=ATI Radeon 7500 supporting digital cables.

Because you are using a digital input (DVI) for your video source, the contrast control is disabled.

They only work for analog signals.

not true.  I have dual monitors on one video card, both with digital signal (DVI).  my primary monitor is a dell E207WFP 20" widescreen and my secondary monitor is a dell 1907FP 19" ultrasharp.  The contrast control on the 20" works fine with digital input but contrast is shaded out on the 19" with digital input.
