Sadly, there are new threads about this issue starting up, which now means we have to keep a close eye on them all, in case there is new info coming out.

So Jesse, you still have not answered my question, many many days ago.

Can we get an official word on what is the procedure if our replacements are worse, or if we just want to wait til Dell sorts this all out?

You seemed to have been there for us, but alas have now bailed on the 14 pages or so of feedback from us users.

Is ANYONE out there?

Also, I noticed this thread.

http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&message.id=41013

If this is the case about the monitors, we ALL should be getting some sort of credit for our wasted time and energy. I for one do not want to pay for something, that it now seems I have to babysit while Dell comes with a solution besides, "send it back and get your money".

That's not how you run a business.

Anyone out there is Dell Moderatorland?

Well....I spoke too soon!  Darkness has fallen and there is horrible, horrible backlight on this monitor.  Major bleeding in all four corners.  It really is terrible.

Pictures here (excuse the shakey hand!):

Looks like another November model can be written off.  This is going straight back to Dell for a full refund.  I'm not gonna risk getting a replacement as in all likelihood it will be just as bad, if not worse.

Also, I have now spotted 4 dead pixels around the centre area of the screen, 2 green, 2 red.  Out of the box that's just not good enough.

I'm very disappointed as my earlier post shows I really really like this monitor.  Great picture and clarity, neat and I love the fact that it's widescreen.  But a backlighting problem of this severity is just unacceptable.

I would recommend anybody thinking about getting this monitor to steer clear of it.  Keep your money, look elsewhere.  Don't be tempted like I was, thinking you might end up with a perfect one, the chances of that, it seems, are very very remote.

Just one last question - are LCDs supposed to get this hot?  It has been on for about 5 hours and the screen is very warm and so is the top of the back plate.  The heat seems to effect the backlighting, the warmer it gets the worse it becomes.

Also, something else I've noticed - the screen seems to be suffering from temporary burn in.  When I change to another program after leaving the screen relatively unchanged for a few minutes (10-15) I can see a faint after image (the outline of an icon, or window box) for about 20 seconds until it fades away.

Should a new monitor be doing this?

They are hiding it, so no one can read the posts...

Hi folks,

Been following this thread for a while, and thought I would add a positive comment. I had a December '04 A00 that had pretty bad backlight in the top right hand corner and 1 dead pixel. Exchanged it for a January '05 A01 with much better backlight and no dead pixels. I'm happy and I love the monitor.

Maybe I'm blind, but is this topic showing on the main forum list?
ie Forum Home > Dimension > Monitor which is where this topic is listed at the top of the page.

I can't see it anywhere? :smileysad:

You have to choose "Sort Messages by Latest Post Date" under "Board Options". The default is to sort messages by Thread Start Date, which was a long time ago!

Well I finally got around to opening and trying out my two 2005 replacements. Both are worse if that is possible than what I have:

Nov 2004 A00 - 12 Dead Pixels and still back light issue. Was expecting this seeing how it is a Nov A00 unit.

2nd One: Dec 2004 A00 This is the very worse one the back light is so bright it blurs even in bright colors and if I move the screen or touch it the leakage extends across the screen. Forgot Dig Camera at work or I would take Pics. I will be asking for 2 new A01's and sending these back man what a waste of time.

Sorry to hear that petersondm.

I put my display back in the box last night, I read elsewhere that someone did this and when they took it back out a couple of days later the backlighting problem seemed to have fixed itself.  Sounded completely implausible but I tried it anyway.

Have just reassembled the monitor and there is 0 backlight and only one of the 4 dead pixels I could see yesterday is there.  Yes before anybody shoots me down, I KNOW you have to wait an hour or two for the monitor to heat up before the problems start.

It's a real shame, looking at the monitor right now it really is perfect.  I just wish it would stay that way :(

PS - what is the quickest way to go about arranging a replacement?  I've emailed Dell (I had to quote a Laser Printer Service tag because the monitor does not have one!!!!) but no response as yet, not even an automated email.  Should I ring them?

What are my rights when it comes to a full refund - how long do I have?  7 or 21 days?  I'm in Ireland, not the USA.

Both of these units were bad right out of the box., I didnt have to wait for warm up. I think I know why someone may have put one away and tried it again and it seemed fine. If I touched the screen (gently) it would pop in and out. I could see the backlight getting worse and travel to the center of the monitor but it would always pop back to how I received it. It is possible there is a panel or filter piece around the edges that is not contacting completely as it should be to prevent the back light leaking forward.

Well per a Dell Tech all they have are Revision A00 2005FPW's in stock:

Dear David,

Since the previous email agent is not available today, I am replying to

your message so that we can solve your problem as quickly as possible.

David, I apologize for the inconvenience in reaching Dell for the

I would like to inform you that only A00 version is available on our

Did the moderator of this board, just get up and leave the room?

Jesse, we are still waiting on you, many weeks later.

Let's try and keep this thread at the top in hopes SOMEONE can address this.

This is really a sad sad situation.

Anyone out there from Dell wanna touch this?

Well, I just set up the third 2005FPW I'd ordered (the first A01 revision) and it looks like there are no dead pixels (though that was just glancing over it). It does however seem to have some pretty major backlight leakage (based on my cupping my hands and comparing black screen brightness around the screen, but I can't tell for sure because it's too bright in here (it's being set up in an office).

Since there is no way anyone will ever see the effect here, I really don't care if there is leakage or if there isn't on this one, and I bet you that's one of the reasons Dell doesn't care either. I'm sure a lot of Dell's orders are corporate orders (especially for these) and in a corporate environment the leaakage problem would never be an issue. Dell probably knows this and it may be one of the reasons they haven't really taken any pains to resolve the problem. In any sort of office lighting, you'd never notice this issue. Maybe that's the final verdict for this screen, great for corporate use, hit and miss for home/prosumer use. I'm happy with my home one, but I'm realizing that has the least leakage of all of them, and may not be representative of the average.

One thing I should note is that the leakage on the first 2005FPW I ever set up in this office looks to have dissappeared almost completely after about a month of daily use (7-8 hours a day). So maybe there is hope after all for the other 2005FPWs.
