I ordered my 2005FPW yesterday and it should arrive tomorrow. Cross your fingers for me! If there is anything wrong with it at all then I am probably just going to return it for a refund since exchanging the thing seems not to help. I guess this wasn't the best Dark Deal after all...

I received my 2005FPW yesterday and got to test it for some time. It looks great and gets a certain "WOW" response from whoever sees it, even from myself. Dead pixel count seems to be good because I cant see any, even when running numerous tests. Back light leakage is another story.

Although at first everything seemed to look ok a few hours into use I noticed a color difference or gradient in color. I really did not notice it on anything else except websites which have solid page colors. If the page was orange/yellow, the left most side would be lighter and would slowly fade to the correct color towards the center (like a gradient). I know this is due to back light leakage on the left side of the screen. All other sides seem to be unaffected. The strange part is that when I fill the screen with one color I don't see a color change at all. When I fill the screen with black I see some lighter, brown areas in the corners. However, these move around when I change the angle I am viewing the screen (even if by just a little bit) so I can't tell if they are just caused by my viewing angle.

I know I have 21 days to use the thing so I will give it a chance and see if I can live with the problem listed above. It's hard to do that since I know the problem is there and I was looking for it all along... What do you all think I should do?

PS: It is a A01 built in Jan05 made in Mexico.

hi everyone (and you Dell people monitoring this thread)

i just got my THIRD 2005FPW.

#1 was used, sent to me by mistake. some dead pixels, backlighting issues. revision A00, Mexico.

#2 was new, but had HORRIBLE backlight issues. NO DEAD PIXELS. revision A01, Mexico.

#3 the good news: at first glance, NO BACKLIGHTING ISSUES! revision a01, Mexico. however: it has a horrible clump of five dead pixels, left-hand side.

how did this get past quality control? when it's four or five pixels scattered throughout the screen, fine. maybe one or two together, okay.

but this is SUPER ANNOYING. up close it looks like four pixels black, and one pixel grey. like a permanent, blotchy period.

ah, Dell. you almost made a PERFECT monitor. what's the dead-pixel policy at dell? and is there a way i can fix this myself? after finally getting a monitor without backlight bleed, i want to hold onto this one!

i've had 3 replacements, and still using the first one.

All which are A00 Rev, November 2004, China and all with huge issues.

Anyone finding that the faults are flattening out ?

why is this taking so long

there is talk about production moving to differant plant on all monitors, i understand that the 2405FPW is currently using the new manufacturer, soon to follow suit with others?

Can anyone shine any light.

This is bad...............

I had SIX replacement 2005FPW come my way.

All bad.

All had pixel problems.

Finally called Dell, requested my money back, which they gave me.

Went with the 24 Incher and wow, am I glad I did.

No back light leakage.

No dead pixels.

PERFECT screen.

Get one if you can, I highly recommend it.

If you look at this past thread you will see how "concerned" Dell was with this problem.

They just stopped responding to our pleas for help.

Cheers Muziqlover,

i've had a discussion and am now looking at a refund and a move to the new 2405.

I understand that this new puppy is on extended lead time here in Australia, some 4-6 weeks!, however i think that is all worth it.

the larger monitors are manufactured at a differant plant, and the problems associated with the backlight leak, and dead pixels i hear are resolved .!

the horizon looks bright..

still interesting to note that the 2005FPW is still being sold via US, and yet in other regions, it has been pulled from the LCD range.

Well, tech specs don't show a dot pitch for that monitor, so I assume the quality isn't very good.  A 24" monitor with the same resolution as my Sony 23 means the dot pitch is not any good.

Hi,

Mine is March 2005 A01.  Still have a leakage problem :mansad:

July 11th, 2005 13:00

I too had a backlight leak on all 4 corners of my 2005fpw. One red pixel at the bottom left quadrant. I let the monitor run for about 4 hours until it got good and warm, removed it from the stand, and layed it face-down on a glass table (because it's super flat) with a small weight on the back. They backlight problem has been greatly reduced even after being on for several hours, but still haven't been able to get rid of the red pixel. It's been in use for about a week now and is still alot better than when it came out of the box. My $.02

Go for it. If the new one they send you isn't as good, just send the new one back and keep the old one. You won't have to send yours back first so you won't be without a monitor at all.

The first one I recieved had the backlight problem (no dead pixels) and they replaced it. The new one (which arrived in less then 36 hours) is perfect. Perfect backlighting and color uniformity, no dead or stuck pixels. Perfect. I love this monitor. I'm still blown away by the poor quality control on these monitors, but once you finally get a good one its all worth it!

Should I chance getting mine replaced. it only has one locked pixel so I am thinking they may not want to.

Thanks D-A-N-U. I think I will.

Well, after getting home and putting my background on black, there is no black. More like 70% opacity black (others may call it dark gray, but graphics people will understand) with streaks of 85-90% opbk running through it. It looks really good otherwise, just no real black. It is a very bright monitor though. I turned my brightness and contrast down to about 45% which seemed to help. So I guess i'll take what I got and hope that if it's going to get worse, it does it before my warranty is up.

hey! you guys will NEVER believe this!!!!

so i had my 2005FPW, my THIRD one. no backlighting issues, just this clump of dead pixels, about four or five. i figured i was just going to have to live with them, and i sure as heck didn't want to send my monitor back again, especially a third time. (besides, Dell doesn't so few dead pixels.)

well, guess what! six months later, those dead pixels are GONE.

AMAZING! so now my Dell monitor is PERFECT!
