2005FPW Resolution Problem

I have spent several FRUSTRATING hours trying to sort this problem out using the Dell Online Chat. About the time the support person was going to tell me what to do, the Chat would kick me out and say that the "user disconnected".  No, I didn't.

I have a 2005FPW.  I have installed the 2005FPW drivers in my Dell Dimension 4550.  I have downloaded (from the Dell support site) and installed the latest driver for my ATI Rage 128 Ultra 32MB adaptor.  When I try to increase the resolution to 1680x1050, it is not an option.  The max resolution I can go to is 1280x1024.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I don't have the answer for you, but I have the same problem. I purchased the Dell 2005FPW. I have an ATI Radeon X850 with the latest graphics drivers from ATI.  I installed the 2005FPW monitor driver from Dell (analog).

The problem I'm having is that I can't go any higher than 1360 x 1024. That's the highest option.

How did you get on the chat? My monitor doesn't have a service tag, and it's required for chat.

Interesting! You would think that Dell would have an answer for us?? I am running XP Home Edition. I have a Dell Dimension 4550, so I am using the service tag on that to get into the Chat.

Anyone from Dell reading this by any chance? We would really like to use our Dell monitors at the resolution they were intended for.

Thanks!

Well now, I just spent the last few hours on the Live Chat service.  This time it actually worked!  Unfortunately, I have been informed that my "system" (a Dell Dimension 4550 with an ATI RAGE 128 Ultra 32MB Adaptor) is "Not compatable" with the 2005FPW monitor.

Now, when I was talking to the sales agent at Dell when I was purchasing this monitor, I asked her to verify that this monitor was compatable with my system. She had all of the details of my system in front of her, and she ASSURED me that the 2005FPW was "Fully compatable" with the system that I had purchased.  Now come to find out it is not.

I feel Dell is far more interested in moving product than they are with making sure items are compatable with systems.  But hey, at least I have this nice big monitor!  And I did in fact get "resolution" to my problem!

I will now be contacting the sales department for what I am sure will be lots of fun sorting this whole thing out.

Buyer beware.....

ATI released a new version of the Radeon drivers yesterday. After installing them, the higher resolutions were unlocked.  I set it for 1680x1050. It worked. One thing to note is that after I set it to 1680x1050, the desktop was larger than the monitor screen. I'd have to move the mouse to the edge of the screen to "slide the desktop" and view the rest (which was annoying considering this monitor is designed with an optimal resolution of this size).  I set it back to 1360x1024 on the desktop.

I believe you stated that you had an ATI Rage 128 card. I don't know how often they update those drivers, so you'd have to check with ATI on that.

Thanks for that info! I will email the folks at ATI and see if there are any planned updates anytime soon.

If I get anywhere with Dell, I'll post it here.

Thanks for the help!

I had the exact problem, but I have an nVidia GeForce4 4200 Go graphics card. If you go to:

omegadrivers.net

and download their drivers, you can then add the "1680x1050" custom resolution under Display Properties->Advanced->(Insert Card Name Here)->Screen and Reolutions. Their modified Catalyst drivers supposededly can do this as well. Best of luck.

Oh and make sure you uninstall the horrible Dell graphics drivers first (System Properties->Device Manager->Display Cards->...->Uninstall.
