You connect multiple monitors to a desktop computer using multiple video outputs, either from one video card or two. Many desktop computers have only one video output, just like most notebook computers. The difference is that it is relatively easy to add a video card to a desktop computer if necessary.

Most laptops only have the one blue VGA out, so I do not see any way to attach another monitor.

Your only option might be something like the Asus XG Station. However it doesn't look like this has been released yet - Asus XG Station Approaches Availability. You would need an ExpressCard slot.
