2007FP Mode button used like a KVM switch

Hi, i had two computers hooked up to a KVM switch and that hooked up to a monitor. Recently i recieved my 2007FP and hooked my primary work computer up with the DVI. then i got the idea that i could hook the other plugin into my other computer and use the mode button to switch from one to the other. ]

My question is
Can i do this?
Is this a bad idea?
Could i put wear on the monitor from doing this?

I would also be hooking an Xbox up to it too, so the monitor could be used for 3 things, which i would really enjoy.

I dont want to pipe the lcd through my KVM switch because i fear loss and want the highest quality (for my work computer) as i can get. Perhaps there is a nice KVM out there that is high quality and lossless.

I don't quite understand. Is one computer VGA and one DVI? In this case, you are fine to hook one in through VGA and the other DVI. As far as a KVM goes, it won't harm the monitor, and depending on the KVM the signal degredation shouldn't be very bad. I've currently got the monitor hooked to my laptop through a VGA out on the laptop, then I have an Xbox, Gamecube, and a PS2 connected to a VCR, and then the VCR's video-out to the monitor. I'm getting a hi-def cable box from comcast soon, so I'll be able to switch the Xbox and my Xbox 360 to the Component (Hi-Def) inputs on the Cable Box, and then pipe them (and sweet sweet Hi-Def TV) to my monitor through DVI.

So in other words, this monitor is pretty darn versatile, aslong as you are willing to spend a bit more (in this case, 5 bucks for the additional Hi-Def Cable Box)

Oh and I had to spend a bit to get audio working.. I ended up hooking the audio out of the VCR I had cabled to the monitor, into a stereo reciever, and then I had to get a headphone jack..it's a long story.

Tip from me, get the dell soundbar and save yourself the hassle (I dont know how much it is, but I wish I had bought it)
