2007WFP DVI Connection Always Entering Power Save

Just got my 2007wfp panel. Although it doesn't show banding issues or any dead or bright pixel i'm unable to use DVI to connect to it. Searching thru the forums I see this is a common issue and i've tried all the suggestions on resolving it. I've run the DVI recover utility more than 10 times, i've even spent money to get a new dual-link DVI-D cable yet still the problem persists.

So anyone can come up with any other suggestions on resolving this issue. If not I'll just have to RMA it.

kitsura,

To video card are you connecting the 2007 DVI?

I'm using Asus Nvidia Ti4200 on WinXP SP2. I know its a very old card but its all I have until I upgrade my PC sometime probably end of this year.

So since I'm not using a Dell PC, exchanging the card is out of the question. I've already updated to the latest drivers and ruled out the cable as well as the video card being the source of the problem.

I'm able to use a DVI to VGA adaptor from my gfx card to output signal to my monitor. So the only possible problem source is the 2007 monitor. Since I don't have another 2007 panel lying around I'm not able to verify if its the case.

Does the monitor pass the STFC (Self-Test Feature Check)? If yes, it sounds like the video card to me. It is unlikely that the DVI-D port is dead.

* Turn off both your PC and monitor
* Disconnect the monitor from the PC (both the white DVI and the blue VGA)
* Turn the monitor on
* The floating Dell red/green/blue/white dialog box should appear on a black background

It passes the test. But didn't the other monitors with the DVI issue also pass the STFC? Anyway I'm able to output signal from the video card's DVI port so it can't be dead too. Isn't DVI supposed to be a plug and play thing. I don't know why a standard interface should have so much issues.

kitsura,

What "other monitors"? Where are the threads detailing this issue?

This was the main thread I first saw:

Dell Flat Panel Monitors via DVI: Stuck in DVI Power Save Mode, Intermittent Blanking, Screen Artifacts FAQ

There are many others on the board if you do a search. The affected monitors include 18,19, 20 and 24".

This is the website with Dell acknowledging the problem:

Cnet

In the end I do not know how most of the other people affected solved their problem because all the solutions seem so varied.

Mine is one of the others that has this problem (2407)

mine happens with Ati cards (several different ones).

I would love for it to not be a monitor problem because I don't want to deal with repackaging and shipping.

it happens at odd times, sometimes predictable and sometimes not.

I'm trying to give all the info that I can here so that maybe a solution can be found either and the consumer end or a change in manufacturing.

If you want me to try any other tests or give info, I'd be happy to

Got my new 2007WFP back in October and never had a problem with the DVI connection. Excellent picture on mine. You say you upgraded to the latest Nvidia driver. Did you get rid of all rements of the previous driver before you installed the new one? I use driver cleaner Pro to uninstall the old driver before I install a new one. Leaving old files behind will sometime cause problems.

I seriously doubt its a driver issue but I'm willing to try anyway. Afterall DVI is an industry standard and is supposed to work out of the box without need for any driver. How are you supposed to setup those PCs with only DVI outputs if you need a driver in order for the signal to display.

Ok, I really tried. In fact I think I tried even harder than I really should. The driver cleaner pro didn't work (as expected).

I really am loathe to return the monitor seeing as mine is an almost good one. I troubleshooted till 4am the first day and got nowhere. The 2nd day I tried until quite late before giving up since there was almost no progress. This shouldn't have to be so hard.

Saying that the display is incompatible with the video card is not acceptable. Its like saying ATA or SATA is incompatible with certain hard drives so will be a hit or miss thing. That's what standards are there for. And Dell you just need to learn to follow them precisely.

For what it's worth, I have a 2007FPW, and every time I change resolutions, it goes into power saving mode. I don't want to run a non-native resolution typically, but for some older games, e.g. StarCraft, it would be best. It can make the initial switch, but then when it tries to return to the native resolution it goes into power saving mode. If I continually hit keys to switch between different X sessions (I run Linux), it will eventually leave power saving and display correctly. I haven't figured out a fix yet though.

I have this problem with a new Dell 2407WFP (rev A03) on an ATI RADEON 9250 (128 MB). The RADEON driver is version 8.252.0.0 (dated 5/3/06) and I have the one (and only) 2407WFP driver version 1.0.0.0 (dated 10/14/05). The computer is running XP Home with all Windows updates. And yes, I'm using the DVI cable (it is the 21st century, right?). This is my boss's computer and monitor, so I get nothing but slack for recommending that she get this monitor. If she runs Marine Aquarium 2.6 at a lower resolution than full (so the CPU doesn't go nuts), when the monitor goes to return to 1920x1200, it almost always gets stuck in "Entering Power Save" mode. If she puts the computer to sleep and reawakens it, the monitor comes back. This obviously not an acceptable solution. Actually, she had another of us IT guys swap hard drives with another identical computer we had because he thought it was a power supply issue! LOL Obviously, it is not! Please, Dell, help!

it is just a matter of faulty monitors.  got my 2407 replaced and the new one works flawlessly.
