2407WFP CVT-RB

Question:

Does the 2407WFP support reduced blanking?

Background:

I am looking to upgrade my video card so that I can send a digital signal to my new 2407WFP. While reviewing video card specifications I read the following lines in the specs for the nVidia GeForce 6200 OC from BFG Technologies (http://www.bfgtech.com/6200OC.html):

"Maximum Digital Resolution at 32-bit color: 1600 x 1200 @ 60Hz*"
"* Supports up to 1920 x 1440 @ 60Hz on flat panel displays that support reduced blanking."

To deciper this I am reaing "DVI compatibility for sticklers":
http://www.playtool.com/pages/dvicompat/dvi.html

The articles gives the following advice:

"The monitor manual often includes a list of the supported display modes. Any reduced blanking modes will normally mention that they have reduce blanking or they'll mention the term CVT-RB (coordinated video timing- reduced blanking)."

Searching the manual for this montior at:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/2407WFP/en/about.htm#Specifications

I can not find any references to CVT-RB or reduced blanking. As the montior ships with a single-link DVI-D cable and recommends 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) as the recommended resolution, I could assume it supports CVT-RB. Otherwise, the recommended resolution would be unattainable using the supplied cable. Nevertheless I would prefer to get some verification on this before I go out and spend more money.

This sort of thing really should be in the manual.

donpellegrino,

The highest resolution that support the 2407WFP Flat Panel Monitor is 1920 x 1200, and this is the optimal resolution, it is not depend if the monitor support or not reduced blanking.

You are correct that the highest and optimal resolution is 1920x1200. If you are using the DVI cable that shipped with the monitor then this resolution is not obtainable unless reduced blanking is enabled. Therefore, although the montior's optimal resolution does not depend on the connection used, only certain connection configurations allow for the montior to be run in its optimal resolution. Knowing these connection configurations is important when buying a video card.

Since my original post I have purchased a BFG nVidia GeForce 6200 and it drives the montior at the optimal resolution over the supplied single DVI cable. Therefore, I have proven that this monitor does happen to support reduced blanking even though it is not mentioned in the manual.

donpellegrino,

Thanks. I will run this by Product Group and see if it cannot be added to the online User Guide.
