Also I dont meain to rant or ping my own post but I forgot one thing... If we do get a firmware update it would be nice if the PIP had the capability to do PIP between the two PC inputs and not just the component, composite, etc.
I agree it's excellent Dell provide so many monitor inputs on the 2408WFP (it's one of the features that tempted us to buy one). However it is indeed a pain to cycle through all the unused ports to get to the one you want. It would be great if they simply added the same feature as my Sony TV where you can turn off unused/unwanted ports. Thus you only have to cycle through ports you are interested in (i.e. ports with devices currently attached).
It shouldn't be hard for Dell to implement this as a simple firmware update. Even nicer if they engineered the firmware update so it can be downloaded and applied by knowledgeable end-users.
It's a shame. This monitor has the perfect set of features in terms of hardware. The menu interface even looks nice. But trying to switch inputs makes me want to gouge out my eyes. And if you try to press the input button too fast it ignores the button presses. Being able to disable the unused inputs would pretty much solve the problem. I was very surprised this feature was missing from the settings menu when it has so many other advanced options.
i totally agree. having to switch inputs by pressing the input select multiple times will also wear out the button faster. look at what happen to the power button for many 2407WFP users.
anyway some Samsung monitors with multiple inputs have input detection. the input selection will only cycle inputs that have devices connected to them... i read that somewhere forgot where i got it from already.. maybe can do a search on it.....
My current monitor is a LG Flatron L173SA it has a remote control to select video source, PIP and control audio volume.
It is very nice and easy to select the source of video. And before going to sleep after watching TV or Movie I can simply shut down the monitor from my bed.
It is the only complain I have so far about the 2408WFP.
Dell could sell separately this kind of accessories or just introduce in new monitors.
