2408WFP Resolution / Image size problems & general questions.

Question

HI,   I'm not technical but will try to give you all the info about my problem.   I have just hooked up my new 2408WFP (bought in Australia) via DVI (white connectors) cable to a PC with a nvidia geforce fx 5500 (PCI) graphics card.   When the  screen resolution is set to the monitors native resolution of 1920 x 1200 (via 'Display Properties / settings tab') the resulting image is longer than the screen. Mousing to the left or right of the screen moves the image but obviously its not an ideal set up. The monitors OSD does not have any 'Image positioning or adjust' options in 'Display Settings', and I see from the user manual that 'auto adjust' is disabled when using DVI.  I'm using 'wide mode - fill' from the OSD. I've updated both the graphics card and the monitor drivers but am still unable to alter image size / positioning. To make the image 'fit' the screen ob DVI cable i have to use 1600 x 1200 resolution.   However if I use the 'VGA' (blue connector) cable the screen auto adjusts and the image size fits the monitor correctly at the native resolution. The OSD also  also shows manual image positioning / adjust options in Display settings.   I've been advised to use the DVI cable for best image quality can someone advise where I'm going wrong? Or is it my graphics card and I must use VGA cable?   Also as an aside, I'm using the screen for photoshop work and am sourcing a calibration tool, am I correct in using the 'Custom RGB' mode for this?   Thanks in advance for any help.   Darren.

I'm really not sure what causes this problem, unless the card doesn't support 1920x1200 via DVI. It does sound odd, if you are using the latest drivers. What are your settings for flat panel scaling in the nvidia control panel set to?

You should also read all the threads concerning the 2408WFP on these board and check your monitor for all the problems listed. There are quite a few.

Use the "Board Options" button at the top of the forum and set it to "Sort Messages by Latest Post Date". Now you will see a lot of threads concerning the 2408WFP and it's various problems.

You should use DVI for optimal image quality. The monitor doesn't display the 'Image positioning or adjust' options in DVI mode, as it's completely digitally controlled at this point.

With that being said, I don't think the issue you are experiencing has anything to do with the monitor itself, it sounds more like a driver/card issue.

I'm going to try the monitor on another computer over the weekend. I've tried all the scaling option available by the card (monitor, nvidia etc) all with the same result. My 'puter is 'old' compared to todays standards which may be the problem.

I have the same problem using the monitor on my IBM T42 (w/ current ATI drivers).   Does anyone have any solutions to this problem yet?

I had the same problem, VGA with 1920 OK, DVI only up to 1600.

For VGA I used the Dell Monitor driver. When I remove the Dell Monitor driver and use the standard windows one with DVI connection it works!

I dont know is it a bug of the ATI driver or the Dell Monitor driver.

I am having the exact same problem you mentioned with 2408wfp and nvidia FX5200. With native mode desktop is 'bigger' than the monitor real estate and only 1600 resolution fits.

I did not see a conclusion on this thread. Were you able to solve this problem?
