A Few Resolution Questions About My New Dell 1905FP

I have a few questions about the new Dell 1905FP Monitor that I just received.

I know the native resolution is supposed to be 1280x1024 @ 60Hz, but I have found that at that resolution everything is much too small to the point where I cannot read text, look at web pages etc, without straining my eyes. So I adjusted it down to 1024x768 @ 75Hz and now everything looks bigger and readable and well, more normal.

Why is the resolution supposed to be native 1280x1024 @ 60Hz if everything is too small?

Am I missing something, or is this a good setting for this monitor for I what I am using it for?

For my Video card I am using a NVIDIA 64MB card that is about 5 years old that came with my Dell Computer. It does have DVI, which I am using for the monitor input.

I am still using the same Dell computer that I bought 5 years ago.

I had been using the Dell 991 19" CRT Sony Trinitron @ 800x600.

The thing is, the text and graphics at the native 1280x1024 resolution are so small that neither my wife nor I could read it...And I'm sure if you saw it you would agree that everything is much too small at that setting. And the Webshots desktop that we use does not cover the entire page at that resolution either. It's centered but there is a big blank area around the desktop pictures.

Also this is my first LCD display.

Thanks

Under your video settings you should see an option to increase the font DPI. Increasing this will make text larger and easier to read while still maintaining the native resolution of the screen.

My native resolution is the same as yours, and I can see just fine....Its too bad your eyesight is not as good, and the only remedy is to get another monitor.  LCD's have native resolutions, and using anything else will not give you a good picture.  The closet thing to that 800x600 resolution you are used to, is the 15 inch LCD that gives you a 1024x768.  Or you can send the monitor back and get a CRT monitor which will give you more resolutions to choose from....Hope you are still within the 21 day return policy period.

Also, in Internet Explorer 6, click on "Tools", "Internet Options", "Accessibility...then check "Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages".

Guys,

Thanks for the feedback! I have learned a lot today!!

I have been playing with the Monitor since I got home...I have run it at the native resolution with bigger fonts...I have run it with the smaller fonts...I have also re-run it with the 1024x768 setting again...

Some interesting things that I found that do not make any sense to me...At the native resolution of 1280x1024 on some forums with white background I'm getting some jittery shaking on the screen as I move up and down the web page, with both the smaller fonts and the larger fonts...

When I go back to 1024x768, this shaking goes away...

But here is the bottom line...At both resolutions the monitors graphics, text and picture both are very clear! I had my wife here also and she does agree that at the 1024x 768 resolution she can't see any difference from the 1280x1024 resolution expect for the different sizing...

After everything I have read and from what you all have told me, I can't figure out why, but it does work quite well with the lower resolution...

I am using DVI and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it...But that's the story so far...

Any thoughts? Maybe the Video card?

Thanks
