AW3418DW, Xbox One X, 1440p Issues
So yesterday my brand new AW3418DW arrived. Very exciting!!
On PC it is sublime, paired with a GTX 1080 Ti via DisplayPort.
The excitement didn't last long though! On Xbox One X, its a different matter.
Using the HDMI port on the AW3418DW, I connected the Xbox One X and turned it on. I saw what I expected, a 1080p image (black bars on the left and right side of the AW3418DW). So I went to the Xbox One X settings and changed automatic detection to HDMI, this then allowed me to choose 1440p from the resolution options.
As soon as 1440p was selected, the AW3418DW goes black and enters PSM (power saving mode). A few seconds later, the AW3418DW turns on again and the Xbox One X resets its resolution to 640x480.
I tried different settings, like color space settings, selected allow 50Hz etc etc. Nothing would allow 1440p to work on this AW3418DW, it simply went into PSM every time. Oddly, there was only two refresh rate options available, 60Hz and 120Hz, no option for 50Hz. So I gave up and left it at 1080p.
Everything seemed fine in 1080p mode. I fired up BF1, had a few games, enjoyed how smooth the image was on the AW3418DW. A friend calls me and said I have a beer waiting for you round the pub, so off I go for a couple of beers, while leaving the Xbox One X on and in the BF1 menus.
On returning from the pub, I noted the Xbox One X was off, nothing unusual, but when I turned it back on, I have no image, a black screen. So I did the usual hard reset by holding the power button down for 30 seconds. I can hear audio coming from my headset, but no image on the AW3418DW. Went through the process of hard resetting the Xbox One X several times, all efforts failed to bring back and image on the AW3418DW.
I started troubleshooting, first by trying various different known working HDMI cables, then connecting my Mac Mini to the HDMI port on the AW3418DW, all fine, nice and perfect image from the Mac Mini. HDMI port on the AW3418DW seems fine. All HDMI cables seem fine.
I then connected the Xbox One X to my original BenQ RL2755HM monitor that it was initially connected to (and worked fine for months). And of course, no image. Seems as though the Xbox One X will no longer output from its HDMI port.
I tried the video reset procedure, which didn't work. I tried doing the full factory reset of the Xbox One X by using the USB method, that didn't make any difference.
Image output from my Xbox One X if officially dead!
I refuse to believe this to be a coincidence. New monitor = non-working Xbox One X.
So I did a little reading, like you would in this situation.
Turns out the Xbox One X 1440p support is limited to 2560x1440. And of course the AW3418DW does not appear to support this resolution, according to the manual, the HDMI port supports the following range of resolutions and refresh rates:
• IBM VGA, 640 x 480p
• VESA, 720 x 480p
• VESA, 720 x 576p
• VESA, 800 x 600p
• VESA, 1024 x 768p
• HDTV, 1280 x 720p
• HDTV, 1280 x 720p
• HDTV, 1920 x 1080p @ 50Hz
• HDTV, 1920 x 1080p @ 60Hz
• 3440 x 1440 @ 50Hz
As you can see, no mention of 2560×1440.
I just find it hard to understand why the Xbox One X would stop outputting an image. Did I fry the GPU by selecting the 1440p option a few times?
Luckily the Xbox One X is under warranty as its only a few months old. New one on its way. But I am now very reluctant to connect the replacement Xbox One X to the AW3418DW. Even if I leave it in 1080p mode, as this was the mode I was playing BF1 on before I left for the pub!
Unless I am being stupid, or missing something completely, or the AW3418DW I have is faulty in some way, I cannot recommend the AW3418DW for use with the Xbox One X. At least not in 1440p mode!
Has anyone here successfully got the AW3418DW to work at 1440p on their Xbox One X?

The GTX 1080 Ti should have one HDMI out port. Have you tested it on the AW3418DW using that HDMI to HDMI cable to verify that the AW3418DW HDMI in port is functional? Remember, 3440x1440 120Hz is only available when using the PC Nvidia card and Nvidia G-SYNC is enabled.
The Xbox One X can only use 60Hz so the AW3418DW HDMI 1.4 would max to 1920x1080 60Hz.
The Xbox One X should have identified that the AW3418DW was not giving a 1440 signal and should NOT have allowed you to choose 1440p in its menu? You should post the issue on the applicable Xbox Forum and see what other Xbox One X owners say.

You do all realize that you are mixing conflicting technologies. The Xbox One X uses an AMD GPU and AMD FreeSync. Conversely, both the AW3418DW and AW3418HW use Nvidia G-SYNC which require an Nvidia GPU. If you have a PC with Nvidia video card and HDMI out port. it would be interesting if you could test creating a custom resolution of 2560x1440 in the Nvidia control panel.

Any chance someone has had any luck at this? I just ordered this monitor hoping to connect to an xbox one x while assuming it would default to 2560x1440 since the console sets this. I happened across this thread and now I'm worried. It wouldn't seem like there would be an issue with conflicting technologies as long as the monitor wasn't locked in gsync mode.

I also am worried because i'm picking these monitors up today. According to the dell website it supports 1440p over hdmi at 60hz and 120hz. I cant imagine G-sync is locked as they all have variable hz rates when g-sync is on and off. I currently have two asus 34 pg348q monitors and they are on HDMI 1.0 and max out at 50hz so i have the same problem that my xbox one x cant broadcast to it properly because my $1000 monitor stiffed on the proper HDMI 1.4 or HDMI 2.0. I hope to hear some feedback on this monitor before i pull the trigger.

Have you figured out if this monitor will work with the Xbox one x in 1440p or does it not allow 1440p (would a dp to hdmi adapter help at all?)

Any update on this I can't seem to get anything other than 1080p as an output from my xbox one x. Is there any alternative solution out there. Seems so. Strange that the 1000 pound monitor is limited to 1080

I have tested on the AW3418DW and it's basic 1080 losing half the screen. I also tried a HDMI to DP converter and I have a black screen. Such a shame as the monitor is a thing of beauty when it works.

They charged a premium and ended up half on display scaling and ports.
