Another 1907FP Power Save Problem
My sister owns a 1907FP and I am helping her fix an annoying problem she has had since she upgraded to a new computer I built for her. First the specs.
SeaSonic 530W PSU
DFI LanParty UT 790FX-M2R w/onboard sound
AMD X2 Brisbane 2.6GHz
ATi HD2600XT 512MB GDDR3
Samsung CD-RW/DVD+/-RW/RAM/DL
Seagate 500GB HDD
and of course the 1907FP
When computer automatically turns off the monitor via power save settings the light turns orange and the monitor stops displaying the screen saver, like every monitor. However, when you try to turn the monitor back on by moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard it does not and you must restart the computer to get the monitor back. The power button remains orange throughout the process until you reboot. When the computer reboots the monitor functions properly until 30 untouched minutes have passed and the power save kicks back in, essentially turning off the monitor until I restart. If I physically turn off the monitor by pressing the power button, and then turn it back on, it functions properly every time (making the usb device has been removed noise followed by the usb device has been connected noise).
I have tried installing the latest drivers from Dell but the problem persists
Please excuse me if this problem has been posted before, I keep finding problems with his monitor and power save but they all go into power save while the computer is booting and this is not my problem... (thankfully because that sounds like more persistent and difficult problem to fix then I have.)
Any opinions/ideas/referrals would be welcomed since, of all the problems I have had to fix in the past, very few of them deal with the monitor itself and window$ rather than the video card and window$.
Thanks for taking the time to read my long post.

Are you saying she did not have the issue on the old PC? If yes, this sounds like the ATi HD2600XT video card is not sending a wake up signal to the monitor? Have you tried both the VGA and the DVI connectors?

Chris,
Thank you for responding so quickly. No she didn't have the issue on the old PC but it was running Windows 2000 and the new PC is running XP MCE 2005 Rollup 2. The VGA switch is something I should have thought of, I'll check it out and get back.
By the way, I was not clear in my first post, the video card is a HIS ATi HD2600XT, if that changes anything.
In your opinion, if the video card is not sending a wake up signal to the monitor, would this be a problem within the ATi Catalyst Drivers or with the card itself? (i.e. if I had a different brand of HD2600XT with the same drivers would the problem persist?). Because of the nature of the HDMI features of the HD2600XT chipset I had to use drivers from HIS's website.
Thanks again,
Dan

I would lean towards the video card firmware, rather than the drivers.

I have recently acquired a Dell system as indicated below with some intermittent teething problems such as the one you have exactly described.I can recover access and normal usage with a power reset (using front button 5 secs) but it locks up randomly (sometimes 2-3 times in a row) .I will track this posting with interest but have nothing to add at this time other than my own desktop setup.
