Connecting stand to monitor

I have a new S2718H and I cannot get the stand to connect to the monitor. When sliding the mount into the monitor bracket, it stops about halfway in and sound like it hits something metallic.

Anyone have an idea on what I might be doing wrong and more importantly, how to correct it?
