DDM pushes out updates to itself as soon as they are available, whereas it can understandably take a while for the latest release to be promogulated throughout Dell's web sites. By default DDM automatically checks for a new version once a week, but if you hold the Shift key down while right-clicking the DDM system tray icon, you can select "Check for a new version" from the popup menu.
Yes and No. I went into the administrator account and I got a popup that said there was an update available. I have version 1.11.0.1315. I Said yes and during installation, I got the error message.
Forgot to mention, I went to the administrator account originally in order to update my video driver as I see there is a new one. But this stopped me. Preparing to install color calibration program.
Got a message to update the Dell Display manager for my u2413 monitor. During the installation process, I get an error message that basically says that an error occurred trying to replace the existing file; code 5. I am in the administrator account, win7/64 machine. Did a retry, no change. I assume that the update applied to my 6 month old monitor, Anyone know what the problem might be?
If you switched to an admin account to install the update and left DDM up and running under some other account(s), you will run into this error. The DDM executable cannot be overwritten (or uninstalled) if it is loaded in any other sessions - close it first and then do the update.
That might have been the problem. So, after exiting DDM in the user account, I returned to the admin account. I went to the Dell download page for the DDM. There were three update choices. But only one said in the applicability section that it pertained to my U2413. I selected that one and downloaded it. However, during the install, I got an error message that, correctly, that the download version was older than the version on my computer, even though the version date is later than the one on my computer. How could that be?? Should I have downloaded one of the other DDM versions, even though they did not list my monitor in the applicability list?
Good to know for the future. By chance, I turned on my computer today and got a message, in the user account, that there was an update for DDM. I elected to update and the update went fine, as far as I can tell. Thanks all for the help

howiedg,
Are you doing the web update through the existing DDM software, version 1260?

Kill Dell Display Manager process in the Windows Task Manager before any installation
