DDM, how to stop layout interference?
Before I found this forum I emailed Dell Support but no reply so far and this issue is driving me nuts!
I want to manually manage my own windows layout on this Windows 10 PC. But all steps I've tried, including uninstalling DDM thoroughly, have failed to achieve this.
Whenever I restart this recently purchased U2415 (connected via the signal cable supplied to 'mDP') with the on/off touch button, it displays a 'resized' version of the layout I previously set in Easy Arrange before DDM was uninstalled! I've even tried using Device Manager to revert to the Microsoft generic driver, with no change. Here is a screenshot. Can someone please tell me how I can recover the normal situation please?

Check the original thread. I found some in "holding" and approved them.

Forum software issues. Other users have remarked on this issue.

Yes, they are now, and the page links are also now working. I assume they were temporarily broken?
But how can it happen that a post appears promptly in the thread, then disappears later, with no message?

This issue has arisen very recently on my Win 10 PC and it's driving me nuts! If I switch off the monitor (button at bottom right) and back on again, all windows sizes and positions have been lost. DDM is OFF. (And when I had it ON, I configured it to 'manual'.)
I raised this same problem here about two years ago, but cannot locate it now. And anyway it was never resolved. Mainly because I recall that my posts later in that thread were somehow never appearing!
Obviously I somehow got it resolved later, but...
Help on fixing this would be warmly appreciated please.

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

Hi,
I thought I'd done that but must have failed, sorry. I've just sent the tag and code by reply to the private email.
Subsequent research implies the issue is connected with some obscure facility called EDID, above my technical skill level. Hope you can help me to fix it please.

And I then had yet a further request for an invoice copy, which I sent. Both as a PDF and an embedded image. Is the ‘Private Message’ system robotic or is there human involvement?
I trust all these requests aren’t simply to then tell me I’m outside the warranty? I bought it in August 2018, so I expect I probably am. But does that preclude your giving me a little technical advice on a carefully described problem?

Hi Terry, we have replied to you on private message to advise further on this. Please share the model of the system you are connecting the monitor to.

Yeah, it was bothering me on my new DELL monitor and right clicking the DDM2.0 app in the system tray and unchecking "Application Windows Snap" did the trick, although it took a couple tries, lol

This forum has to be one of the hardest to use I've come across in decades! I had the following email notification today about a question I raised over 4 years ago.

Hi terrypin,
giorov (2 Bronze) posted a new reply in Monitors on 12-18-2022 03:21 PM in the Dell Community:

I logged in and tried to respond, saying thanks but the suggested solution did not work for me. But got a message that this 'solution' had been accepted 'by the Community' and I was not allowed to reply! Accepted within 1 day, and without any further user input!

How can I prevent my Dell monitor U2415 rearranging the layout of all my windows on my Win 10 PC when I switch it on please? I organise this myself and it is most annoying to have to resize and reposition every one of them.

A serious problem has arisen during the course of trying to resolve the issue with DDM that I've also posted about this morning.
When I switch off the monitor, wait a while, and switch back on again I get the familiar message in the middle of an otherwise balck screen showing that mDP is the input option. But when that disappears - NOTHING. That's consistent every time and whatever option I choose in the OSD for DP 1.2.
I have to pull and replace the monitor plug to get access again to my Win10 PC so would urgently appreciate help please.
P.S. I have uninstalled DDM, if that's relevant.

All of your threads have been merged into this one to make it easier to understand the issue and troubleshooting history.
This 4 years/296 days old U2415 built on April 3, 2018 does not have any warranty. This means that Dell support can no longer assist with it.
The U2415 drivers page shows DDM 1.56.2110. The newer DDM 2.0 and DDM 2.1 do not show the U2415 under "Compatible Systems".
giorov stated the DDM 2.0 fix for his newer Dell monitor, not the old U2415. So correct, his fix does not apply to you.
"When I switch off the monitor"
* Why do this? Why not simply set a screen saver and leave the U2415 powered on?
Try the "(3) No cables, power button reset" to see if it helps with the mDP issue.

Thanks Chris, that's helpful consolidating in one place.
The urgent 'no startup' problem: I'll step through that cables thing in the morning, although it seems MacOS not Win?
The layout problem. I conclude it's not a Dell issue. With the DWM uninstalled it persists. Careful study shows all windows vertically resized by factor of 0.63. Must be some Win 10 aspect ratio problem.
Re screen saver, Win 10 Display setting (Switch off screen after no usage in 10 mins) should do the same. But I have another issue: I think my overnight backups cause screen to wake up.
Re DWM versions, haven't understood that yet. Thought mine was the latest, after checking.
Out now, back on the case in the morning.
