Hi,
I would contact Dell directly by email about their return policy and how they handle dead pixels.

I was pretty sure the 1702, and 1703 were Samsung monitors. You are going to have to read reviews and compare specs to make a good guest.

You will not find this information in the spec sheet of a monitor. It depends on whether your video card will work at 8 or 16 bits @1280X1024.

Sometimes the monitor is just about perfect and other times you will have dead pixels.  If you are within the first 21 days, you can send the monitor back for any reason you want, including dead or stuck pixels.  Check out the monitor during this period to make sure you are happy with it, and if you are not, than send it back.  After the 21 days, you will have to call tech support for any problems with the monitor and if they send out another, it will be a refurbished one, not new....Hope this helps a little...

I read you are interested in purchasing a Dell 1704FP monitor. Well I can give you a few information. Dell does have a 21 day return policy, if you have a problem like a dead pixel, you can call customer care which is in India and they will send you a new or refurbish monitor. I suggest you call sales ( in India) and have a chat with them and it will give you an idea of what kind of service they offer.

Yes Dell do use third party companies to make monitors to their design and sell them at low price to the comsumer.
The 1704FP is made by Lite-On Technology corperation and they make a few other Dell monitors.

The 1704FP is a good monitor. I was able to see one at a Dell koisk (in Australia)
The monitor goes 25ms (millseconds)if you play games you will get ghosting. The monitor can rotate 90 degrees and can go up and down on the stand
Brightness 250cd
Contrast Ratio 600:1
four USB ports
Analogue and Digital DVI

If you like to know about people who have bought Dell monitors with dead pixels or stuck and those that got good monitors go to www.hardforum.com just look around and read. However there is Viewsonic monitor 17inch VP171b it has 8ms, brightness 300cd,
Cantrast Ratio 500:1 Can rotate 90 degrees and move up and down on the stand(8ms is very good for games)the 1280x1024 Resalution on Viewsonic and Dell monitors. Check out on the prices on both monitors.
Go to Viewsonic www.viewsonic.com or www.newegg.com

Hi warmonger

It is good you got a Dell monitor with out any problems and no ghosting when playing games. I have a Dell 1905FP Ultrasharp monitor and it is very good and am lucky to have no problems with the 19inch monitor.

Sometimes my display flickers and then it "dulls"  This doesn't happen all the time, what could be causing the problem, does anybody know?
