Dell 1504FP Problem - I read the FAQ but . . .

FROM your FAQ w/ my comments in bold

* Turn off the monitor
* Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
* Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
* Turn on the monitor
* The floating red/green/blue/white dialog box should appear on screen against a black background.
- If the image appears correctly, the monitor is ok and you should look to the video card driver or the video card itself RGBW IMAGE APPEARS A FEW SECONDS THEN GOES AWAY. ON OFF STAYS GREEN. I CAN RECYCLE POWER AND DUPLICATE

Likewise, when hikked up to computer in Windows XP . . . Desktop will show for a few seconds and then black out. But power button stays green. Turning off at power button and then back on brings desktop back for a few seconds then goes black. Power light still shows green

Anything can be done or does this still lean defective. It's a 5 yr flat panel

Thanks

Looks like you get to use your extended warenty. Your symtoms descibe an internal monitor inverter problem.

That would be nice.   So, you mean - - if it is covered under a extended warranty, use it.  But you are not saying that you know it is covered under some sort of defective unit warranty that is in effect regardless of warranty that came with the monitor origionally??

Yeah if you have remaining warrenty, it's time to call them and get it replaced, if not it's going to cost you.
