Dell 2007WFP - NO HDCP From Cable Box (STB)
I am trying to get HD using the above. It is a direct connection from the box (Explorer 3250) to the monitor.
I have DVI (the cable box) to HDMI cable with an DVI adapter (for the monitor) - and the DELL supports 720p resolution. Quote from their site:
"Video display capabilities (DVI playback) 480p/576p/720p (Supports HDCP)"
I have configured the 3250 box to the DELL monitor to exclude all resolutions except the supported 720. I have tested the cable box on a HDTV and it is working fine. All connections appear to be working except I get the message "The DVI / HDMI output is blocked...press exit to cancel" When I press exit, the following appears " Your HDTV does not support HDCP. Please use the YPrPb component to watch TV"

DVI > HDMI > DVI? Why? Have you tried direct DVI > DVI connection?

Yes - we thought of this and it didn't work either - same message.

have you tried changing the 3250 output settings? i.e. hitting "Settings" twice, and look at the options for conversion?
My box (from Rogers) has "convert 1", "convert 2" and "auto-dvi" (or someting like that). these settings switch the 3250 output to 720p, 1080i, or passthru (no conversion, sometimes 720p, sometimes 1080i). I forget which setting is which. my experience with 3250s is this HDCP message comes up whenever it senses a problem, whether this is HDCP related or not.

We have gone in and changed the settings to a number of combinations (and ensured that those not supported are turned off). In theory, you should set the res to 720p given the range of the monitor but this didn't work either.
Thanks for reply mike

sounds like you tried everything. too bad, since this setup would be pretty nice. since the HDCP 'handshake' isn't working, my only suggestions might be to:
try power on sequencing, i.e. both devices off, then power on the 3250 first (and wait) then power on the 2007. also try the opposite.
setup the 3250 first with your HDTV to use settings the 2007 requires, and only permit 480i and 720p (I assume you use the two-button combination on the box itself to do this per the install guide). ensure this is 720p for all HD channels on the HDTV before connecting to 2007. see if being more permissive (480i) gets you further. if you can get a connection, start with SD channels (480i) then tune to HD (720p). I use the "#" button on the 3250 remote to verify the signal (i.e. displays "Normal 720p" or "Normal 1080i" or "Stretch 720p" etc, it cycles through the stretching, but also tells me what is actually broadcast.
good luck with this. I have a 2408 and hope to do the same thing with a 3250, but not tested yet. blu-ray via PC connects fine to the 2408, with the required HDCP handshake, where my old 2005FPW (not HDCP compliant) did not work.

(Hmmm - I replied to this the other day but it doesn't show up)
Thanks again mike - tried all that - nada. I ended up talking for 2 hrs. with India and USA reps and eventually it was agreed will get a replacement (the model is obsoltete so no idea what I will get). Will test with PS3 as it is the only connection I have heard online that works.

I hope mods did not strip this thread because it is long from being resolved!!
I only have a case # - no replacement monitor in front of me yet.
Sorry for spelling above ...arrrggghh!
I am concerned that I will be sent a UltraSharp 2009W - appears to be inferior. Tests will tell.
mike - I will post the results for sure.

-springarb, I am having the exact same problem with my cable box and the HDCP message that I'm getting. If you do get anywhere, please post back here to let me know. Right now I'm at the point where I'm giving up and using component cables coming from the cable box (which doesn't carry sound, so I'm not happy to say the least).
I thought maybe my monitor (I'm using a 2408) was not HDCP compliant for HDMI cables, but that apparently doesn't seem to be the case as mike5065 is able to use his HDMI cable through software that requires HDCP compliance. To me it's useless calling Dell too, they send you over to someone in India who cannot communicate very well, and on top of that seems to give unreliable info. I was told by the Dell representative I was speaking with that the HDMI was not HDCP compliant, but I think I was told that because I foolishly lead him to say that with my questioning - "Is the 2408 only complient with HDCP through the DVI connection?" Very stupid of me, but I don't want to spend hours calling other people who don't get it either.
