It sounds like the backlight is failing. Your best bet is to find the backlight on ebay or craigslist. We do not repair monitors or sell internal monitor components. We do not even have monitor repair/disassembly documentation. We simply replace them while under warranty. You can try contacting this business for help.

Yeah, except hate to say it dell.. your support is awful. And when i spent a whole day trying to contact someone who could help me because i only had about a month left on my warranty, support simply denied that my monitor existed or had been purchased from them (i had purchased directly from dells website and had the order information on my screen). However, due to the fact that Dell has Relentlessly given me support issues in the past, i take my business elsewhere (as an IT and Networking professional). More on the note of this very old post (to anyone doing research) i would guess that the problem would be with the inverter since the screen is dim (and in my case also flickering) rather than completely black.

Hello everyone

I figured out a way to get the dimm display to be lid brightly again. I'm not sure how long, but it works. You just need to alternate the cables coming form the power supply board going to the cold cathode backlight tube. Before I did that my power supply board was buzzing now it stopped and the backlight is bright again. I tested it for several hours and worked fine.

Please note that if you replicate anything described here you'll do it under your own risk!
