Dell ST2210 Static after Display Wake

Hi,

About 5 months ago, I purchased a Dell ST2210 22" monitor. I have it running with my late 2009 Mac mini, via DVI connection. I find that sometimes when I wake the computer from sleep, the display shows a static like image (like an old TV out of tune). When I turn the display off, and then back on again, the display is fine.

I also notice this static like image sometimes when changing resolution.

Because it requires me to turn the display on and off again, I think the issue is the display and not the computer.

Has this every happened to anyone else? If so, is their any fix for it, or is my monitor just faulty?

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks,
Jordan

Can you replicate the issue on another PC that does not use the mini-DVI to DVI cable?

I am having the same problem with my Dell monitors connected to a Mac Pro with DVI. Any fixes for this besides turning off the monitor and then back on?

Steffan

Hmm. I don't think I've ever seen this problem while using Windows (on my Mac that is), and haven't seen it lately now that I have reinstalled Mac OSX (just did a completely full reformat, not archive and install). Could be something to do with the software.

I'll keep you posted.

I am having the same problem with the same monitor, same operating system. Is there a fix for this yet?

Hi,

I am still having this problem with my display, and looking around other websites it seems to be a problem with certain Mac's running Snow Leopard using the DVI output.

The main recommended solution is to use VGA on the monitor instead.

I have not yet used VGA with my display, but have found that the issue usually (if not always) happens when the computer puts the display to sleep or the computer goes to sleep, on its own. The issue seldom happens when I tell the computer to sleep (from the Apple menu) or sleeping the display myself (ie, from screen corner set to sleep display).

I hope this helps.

I have this issue as well.  I've got a 30" at home hooked up to an imac using the $100 mini display port adapter, and a 27" at work to my MBP using one of those adapters as well.  I don't have a non dell 30" to test this on, but the common denominator (besides dell monitors) is the need for the dual link dvi mini dvi adapter and the high resolution of the screen (higher than 1920x1200).

I don't think I've seen this issue too much lately. I think it was still happening on 10.7 (Lion) but I am now running 10.8 (Mountain Lion).

It could be related to the display plug being slightly unplugged, I think I was having issues with my fans turning on full and after opening the computer and after moving the computer forward so the adapter would not hang off my desk so much things seem to be working better. This is around the time of my Mountain Lion upgrade so it could either be this or the OS.

If I remember I will post here if I see the issue again.
