Dell U3011 Max Reslution Problem with Lattitude E6410

Hi,

Recently I just bought a U3011. I connected it with my lattitude E6410 via E-Port Plus Replicator/Docking Station. The dock model number is
430-3114.The connection port is dvi.

But I could not get the 2560x1600 resolution on u3011. The best I could reach is 1900x1200. My graphic card on E6410 is Intel HD Graphics. I installed the latest driver for Intel Graphics and dell u3011. According to the manuals, Intel Graphic card and dock station should be able to support 2560X1600 resolution. But resolution option only gives me 1900x1200 as possible maximum resolution. I have another dell monitor which I could connect to dock via dvi link. That monitor can reach something around 2048X1152. So I believe my laptop and docking system should at least be capable of doing a little better than 1900x1200.

Where could be the problem? Is it a good idea to set up custom resolution through screen resolution admin interface? If yes, what should be the correct parameters for: width, height, refresh rate, color depth, and underscan percentage of u3011?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Wayne

Many thanks!

Displayport is the way to go. I hooked u3011 to the dock with displayport cable instead of dvi and got the max resolution.

Remove the dock from the troubleshooting. Connect the laptop DP (DisplayPort) directly to the monitor DP. You should be able to get 2560x1600.

Hi, I have same problem with U3011 and Inspiron 7720, but no dock station in my case. No resolution above 1920x1200 over HDMI. Do I need a custom setting resolution for Intel 4000HD?

mariot64,

I think the DELL-Terry B and the members of the Laptop Video board might have thoughts on this. Post a message out there.

I thinK I foud a way.

The isue is that 2560x1600 does nor appear in windows' or NVIDIA's set up drop down menu.

1. The connection must be DVI for 2560x1600. (VGA gives only upto 2048x1280).

2. Rt click the screen and gointo "NVIDIA control panel."

3. click "Customize"

4. in th eCustomize window, click "Create Custom Resolution."

5. type in 2560 in Horizontal pixcels and 1600 in Vertical piscels.

6. click test.

7. If it displays OK, accept it.

8. continue say OK to close the windos.

9. go to screen resoluton of windos. Now you can see 2560x1600 in the drop down as "recommended".

10. sep up screen resoliution as usual.

I'm an Inspiron 7720 user as well. Been struggling for days try to figure out how to make it work with my U3011 through HDMI. Can someone from Dell please post a step by step guide how to achieve this please?

Thanks in advance.

17RSE,

The laptop 7720 only has VGA and HDMI outs. So how are you connecting the laptop to the U3011? Using what cabling? What resolutions are you expecting?

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. What I was trying to get is 2560 x 1600 to my U3011, VGA can't do that and HDMI is restricted to 1920x1200.

Tried customising resolution to 2560 x 1600 in Intel graphics control panel, refresh rate could only go up to 35p, hence it's practically unusable with an unstable image (blank and flickring a lot)..

BTW, I'm using a HDMI 1.4 cable.

Thanks.

Hi 17RSE,

Follow the below steps to setup the U3011 monitor with HDMI cable:

  1. Connect the HDMI cable to the computer and the U3011 monitor,
  2. Select the menu button on the monitor.
  3. Use the up and down arrow keys to select Input Source.
  4. Select HDMI input when you are using the HDMI connector.
  5. Press the “->” button to select the HDMI input source and check.

To set the Maximum resolution for the monitor:

If the operating system in the computer is Windows XP then follow the below steps:

  1. Right-click the desktop and click Properties.
  2. Select the Settings tab.
  3. Set the screen resolution to 2048 x 1280 (VGA input source) / 2560 x 1600 (DVI/DisplayPort input sources) / 1920 x 1200 (HDMI input source).
  4. Click OK.

If the operating system in the computer is Windows Vista® or Windows® 7:

  1. Right-click the desktop and click Personalization.
  2. Click Change Display Settings.
  3. Move the slider-bar to the right by pressing and holding left-mouse button and adjust the screen resolution to 2048 x 1280 (VGA input source) / 2560 x 1600 (DVI/DisplayPort input sources) / 1920 x 1200 (HDMI input source).
  4. Click OK.

If you do not see 2048 x 1280 (VGA input source) / 2560 x 1600 (DVI/DisplayPort input sources) / 1920 x 1200 (HDMI input source) as an option, graphics card driver update is required depending on your computer,

Go to this link: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection?fkey=Drivers_PS

Enter your service tag, select the operating system from the list and download the latest driver for the  graphics card.

Please reply for further help.

The monitor cannot "change" the restriction of the source HDMI 1920x1080. The only way you can achieve 2560x1600 is via source DVI-D which your laptop does not have.

I have exactly the same problem with partial solution. I am able to run U3011 using HDMI cable from Samsung 780z5e with intel 4000 GPU using intel custom resolution application at 2560x1600@50p. It does not allow me to use 60Hz, which is almost for sure limitation of the driver as other users are able to use 2560x1600@60p from linux.

The main problem is bug in U3011 which is reporting max resolution for its HDMI as 1080p when it obviously supports native 2560x1600@50 at least.

Can you please explain this bug? Or is it inteded limitation for no reason what so ever? many thanks

No, not a bug. The U3011 HDMI 1.3 was never designed to do 2560x1600 60Hz. We designed the DP and DVI-D to do the higher resolutions. Back in 2011 when we released this model, HDMI was designed to do 1920x1080p to match the HDCP protocol.
