Dell U3011 Max Resolution Problem with 17" MacBook Pro Mid-2009

I have a Dell U3011 connected to a MacBook Pro 17" Mid-2009 over DisplayPort. The U3011 is capable of 2560x1600 resolution, however, when connected, the laptop defaults to a refresh rate of 60Hz (NTSC) and enables Overscan. I have the monitor connected using the following cable: http://estore.circuitassembly.com/products/Mini-Displayport-to-Displayport-Adapter-Cable.html Looking at the specs of the cable, I noticed this: "Full bandwidth transmission (2560x1600p60)" I am unclear what the "p60" means. The laptop is capable of displaying an external 2560x1600 display: "Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors" I am curious if others are experiencing this issue with MacBook or MacBook Pro machines.

We have not tested our monitors on apple products including the apple mini-DP to DP adapter. But, it sounds like the laptop is pushing the correct resolution of 2560x1600 @60Hz over DVI/DP. Can you explain the "overscan" issue? By overscan do you mean there are black bars on all four sides?

By "overscan", I mean the operating system is defaulting to a setting indicating the display is using overscan, i.e. I do not mean a description of what I am seeing. The attachment is a screenshot of the 'Display' preference from OS X (10.6.5) on the U3011 when it is connected to the 17" MBP that appears when the U3011 is connected. These are defaults the OS is selecting. Also note, when I deselect the 'Overscan' option on the display preference, the monitor reverts to 22XX by XXXX (I cannot recall specifics on the resolution as I am away from the display/machine currently). Please let me know if I can clarify anything further.

I do not know. You should check with the guys here for others that are using that monitor.
