Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW
Hi
I would like to buy the Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 24" LCD monitor.
My computer is a Apple Mac G4 dual 1.25GHz processor "Mirrored Drive Doors" model and I beleive it has the following video card: ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (AGP 4X) video card with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM.
All I want to know is will it work with this card? I went here:
http://www1.us.dell.com/content/learnmore/learnmore.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~id=monitors&~line=desktops&~mode=popup&~series=optix&~tab=other
and they said that an ATI "ALL-IN-WONDER" 9000 64 MB DDR-SDRAM was supported but no sign of the card that's in my G4.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

According to:
http://www.apple.com/hardware/powermacg4/specs.html
you have an ATI 128MB Radeon 9800Pro installed and it is compatible with the UltraSharp 2405.
Hope this helps.

It does list ATI Mobility 9800, twice!
at: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?TabPage=overview&sku=320-4221&c=us&l=en&cs=19
it states only that to "...optimize this monitor's performance, your system must be abl e to support WUXGA resolution (1920x1200)." which the 9800 does. They want the 16:9 aspect ratio and the 9800 series shoes that at http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9800/radeon9800pro/specs.html
Just using your needs to check on my own for a client who has the same G4 and wants to move into a flat panel.
Good luck.

where exactly on that page does it say that my G4 has an ATI mobility 9800 which the monitor supports?
It does say on that page that there is support for digital resolutions up to 1920 by 1200 pixels so I assume this is ok.

Pardon me if you feel I'm out of place here but since you're talking about the same Dell 2405 and a Mac I thought I should ask you a few questions about my experiences with this new flat panel and my mac g4.
I received the flat panel about 2 weeks ago and thought that I needed a pro flat panel calibrater so after trying ColorSync, SuperCal deiced to get SpyderPro just for this. Right now I'm thinking of calling Dell and telling them about the problems so that they can replace it if this problem is not solve soon. I bought this monitor for video editing and photography, I need the flat panel to be properly calibrate for photography and right now is not working for me.
Here's the problem...
I get noise on pics I view on it, and I get a yellow/green cast on gray colors. have you experience any of these problems with yours?
I'm using a Mac G4, with a NVDA GeForce2 MX 32 MB. I know is low vram but it does support 1920 X 1200.
Have you calibrated your Dell 2405 and what software/hardware did you use?
Any suggestions?
--William
PS: I also tried it with a PC it was a Dell Dimension 4600 with 128 Vram, calibrated it with SpyderPro and had the same problem. As far as I know, there are no drivers for this monitor for XP or any OS.

I haven't bought the monitor yet, that's why I was posting here to check if it's going to work with my G4.
It sounds like you have a faulty monitor if it's doing the same on a PC.
There seems to be some drivers for PC here:

Did you ever purchase the monitor? I am considering a purchase for my daugther for work. She has a Apple G4.
If you did purchase it, did it work well for you and your needs? Did you have to add anything to the computer to make the monitor work.
I look forward to your reply.
