Digital vs Analog

I have a GeForce4 Ti4600 128Mb graphics card and a 1900FP screen. They both have digital and analog input and output.

What is the differnence between digital and analog output on the card and digital and analog input ont the screen?

Which one should I use?

Do they both have benefits or and they both there just for compatability?

Thanks

You can use either without any issues. Running in digital eliminates the need to convert the video signal from digital to analog and back again. It will also provide for more stable pixels. If both monitor and card have DVI, that would be the preferred configuration.

Hey I have been having the same problems with my monitor that many other people in this forum have been having which is that my monitor is stuck in power save mode when in Digital.  It works fine when its in analog mode.  It happened recently and no monitors seem to work with my computer in digital mode.  I was just wondering if there is a noticeable difference between analog and digital simply with regular usage such as programs like AOL, Word, Internet Explorer etc.....basically nothing too graphically oriented.  I figure that when playing things like DVD's there would obviously be a noticeable difference but I dont use my computer for DVD's anyway.  I was going nuts for the first 2 days it happened but after hooking up the analog I can honestly say that I dont notice any sort of a difference between the two....at least not with the programs I use.  Just curious.  Any help with my question would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

I am having the same problem except mine used to work in digital. One morning I tried to "wake" up the monitor and it would not come out of energy saving mode. I swiched it to analog and it works properly. This is with a Dell1901fp monitor and a nvidia gforce 5200 vidio card. I have called tech support and have not been able to resolve the problem in the last four months. The last time I taled to them and went through all the fixes that they came up with the tech wants me to restore win xp and if that does not work try a new vidio card. He says I must restoe windows before they will send new vidio card. I really don't want to do this. They seem to be guessing and this seems a bit drastic to me!

I am having the same problem with my NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 adaptor and AS500 Dell monitor.  Today was the day it decided to not work in Digital mode.  If anyone comes up with a fix for this issue (barring reloading XP) let me know.

I had trouble with my 1901fp monitor and 5200 fx vidio card working in digital mode. About three months ago I followed the advice on this forum and told the tech that I wanted a verison 2 vidio card and after installing it my monitor has worked in digital vidio mode. I had to tell them this is what I wanted. I talked to them about this problem for hours before this and tryed all the fixes. reloaded drivers, checked settings, etc. I was not going to reload windows when all they were doing was guessing.
