Does wide screen always stretch content?
To fill the wide screen I have the desktop in stretch mode. I like that, but it also stretches content...making working with pictures in photoshop a problem. Do I have options here? Is there other aspect ratio available? Or does this make the wide screen really only usuable for DVD's etc.? Ideas anyone?

What sort of graphics card do you have - ATI, Nvidia...?
Isn't there some setting in Nvidia's control panel for fixed width ratio or something? I've got to figure this out for myself as well...I don't want my pics/games to stretch, but to scale so that I've got black sides or however you describe it.

I'm very curious about knowing how this works also. I'm considering buying one of these monitors but I have to know if what you describe is possible. I will watch movies on the monitor, and any stretching or distortion is unacceptable. Can anyone clarify how this works?

Like I said, the monitor can sort this out.

to others - watching movies/games through your PC - the software gives you scaling options. So does the graphics driver Plugging a games console or other video source directly into the monitor is a different story, you have to use the monitors scaling options in the OSD. Have a look at this thread:
Considering buying 2007fpw - S-Video Stretching Question
There are also several threads about isuues with the 2407WFP as a games monitor.

How would one know what resolution matches what monitor? Also, where would one find the place to change the "Wide Screen" to 1:1 ?
I'm asking this because I have the Laptop with a 15.4 inch screen and when I display photographs that I've taken, the pictures are stretched and people look FATTER than what they should. This laptop has an ATI graphics card.

Press the menu button on the screen. Scroll along to Display settings. Press the menu button again. The second option is "Wide mode". Select 1-1 there.
But ATI should have a driver to allow 1680 x 1050. So, try that first - then you won't need the 1-1 option

Thanx Alan! There is a 1680 x 1050 setting and it does correctly display photos w/o stretching them. I will say that at that size one needs a good set of eyes to read any print on other applications but, hey, I guess I can always use the 1680 x 1050 for just when I'm looking at photos and swith back to the 1280 x 800 for wide screen.
Thanx again.
