E153FP, cannot display this video mode

Question

Hello, I am attempting to use an older E153FP monitor as a second monitor for my laptop. A roughly one-year-old Lenovo 700-15. I bought a VGA to HDMI adapter, as the laptop does not have a VGA port. The monitor will power on, but will only display a black screen reading, 'Cannot Display This Video Mode.'. I have already checked all my cable connections, restarted the computer and monitor, attempted to enable VGA mode, and played around with display settings, advanced display settings, and display adapter properties, all to no avail. The only specs I know for the monitor are 1024x768 and 59Hz. The laptop itself is 1920x1080 and 60Hz. Thank you to anyone who can provide any assistance.

Thank you, but as I said above, I already purchased a highly-rated (4.4 of 5 stars) Moread HDMI to VGA adapter cable from Amazon. I would have to believe the problem is in settings, because the monitor will power on and display that message, but will not display anything I'm doing on my computer.

I would like the second monitor to act as an extension of my current laptop display, and have my settings set accordingly.

The Lenovo display settings should see the attached E153FP but you may have to tell it to use the extended monitor at 1024x768 60Hz. You should post the issue on the Lenovo Forum and get their opinions.
