E153FP stuck in power save mode - Help!

I have a problem with my E153FP - it is stuck in power save mode and I don't know what to do.  I've disconnected the blue VGA cable and run the self test, checked the pins and checked all the connections (all fine) as per the troubleshooting pages.  However, as soon as I reconnect the blue cable, the power indicator on the monitor goes from green to amber and I'm back in power save mode.

Monitor is connected to a Dimension 4600 and all was fine until a couple of days ago!

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks

I think it's set to go into stand by if its not used for a certain period of time...but how can I change this setting when I can't see the screen?

I'm currently working off a separate laptop to try and find a solution for the desktop.

Hi - Thanks for your quick reply....tried it out, but unfortunately it didn't work.  Still in power save mode when the monitor was switched on.

Any other ideas gratefully received!

Interesting.  Have you tried to boot up into Safe mode to see if it will by pass the normal boot up routine and turn off hibernate then  ?

Or try another video mode cable.  If using analog or dvi at the moment, disconnect that one cable from both monitor and video card, and replace it with the other and hook it up to the video card to see if we can at least get a monitor turned on than you will have to change the input setting by pressing in on the monitor input setting button.

To get into Safe Mode, you will have to have the monitor turned on, boot the system and keep hitting the F-8 key until it boots into a Black screen with different categories to choose from.  On top is Safe Mode.  Move the up arrow to the Safe Mode, and click Enter.  See if this works

Try this one thing first.  Unknown if it will work, but someone else had the same problem and it worked until a another fix was found :

Turn off the system and monitor.   Now boot back up, but leave the monitor off.  When enough time has passed and you think the system is booted up completely, than turn on the monitor to see if this works.  Give it about a minute before pushing in on the monitor button.

I'll do some more research to see if I find another solution or someone may come by to assist.

Or :

Do the same above but this time, when you turn the system off, turn off the monitor first, than turn off the system.  When booting back up, don't turn on the system until the system is fully booted.  Cannot think of anything else at the momemt

Is your system set for Hibernate or stand by ?  If so, turn those off and try again

Haven't been able to get into safe mode unfortunately, but I have been experimenting with different leads / monitors and have found that whatever monitor I plug into the Dell CPU (with whatever lead) encounters the same problem - ie the monitor goes into power save mode.  Have tried the E153FP monitor with a different processor and it worked OK so I'm now beginning to think that there might be a problem with the CPU - possibly the video card?

Does it sound like I need to replace the video card with a new one - or could it be some other problem?

Instead of replacing the video card just yet, take it out and reinstall it to see what happens.
