E2216H, 75Hz
Hi,
I would like to ask about the E2216H model and the possibility to configure its refresh rate at 75Hz. I connected this monitor to the Latitude E5470 laptop, as an extended desktop, through a DisplayPort cable. I tried to configure the monitor at 1920x1080 (recommended resolution) 75Hz refresh rate, but I realised that there is no other option but the 60Hz for this resolution. I should also mention that my graphics card is the Intel HD Graphics 520.
So, I would like to ask the following:
- Is there any way to configure the monitor at 75Hz and/or above, while maintaining the resolution at 1920x1080? If yes, how is this possible?
(The main reason for asking this is that the equipment is provided by the company I work for and any monitor at less than 75Hz (even LED/LCD ones) causes me intense headache and eye fatigue) - In case the above is not possible, is there any other Dell monitor that supports refresh rates 75Hz? If yes, could the above laptop support the refresh rates offered by the monitor (even if they are 120Hz or above)?
- In general, to what extent a monitor's refresh rate is affected by the graphics card?
Thank you very much for your time.
All the best,
Ioannis

You can see from the E2216H User's Guide page 17 the manufacturer resolutions and refresh rates =

It may be possible (but outside the monitor warranty) to use the laptop video control panel to choose a "custom" resolution/refresh rate. See this and this.

Chris, thank you for the prompt reply. I will try the potential solution presented in the first link and let you know. I don't think admins will let me do anything that is outside warranty, but I will give it a try at least.
In the meantime, is there any other Dell monitor that supports for sure >=75Hz refresh rates?
Also, is a monitor's refresh rate affected even the least by the graphics card?
Thank you,
Ioannis

Hi Chris, thank you for the prompt reply. I checked the first link and this option is already unchecked. The highest refresh rate I can get at 1920x1080 (recommended resolution) is 60Hz (I wanted to attach a screenshot but couldn't find any relevant button). Regarding the second link, I don't think that our IT department will risk to lose the warranty. They are pretty strict regarding any "informal" tweaking actions.
About questions 2 and 3, is there a Dell monitor that can be configured at >=75Hz (1920x1080)? They said that we could order one, as long as it's Dell.
Thanks again,
I.

Most of our monitors support 75Hz but not at 1920. The factory default Hz is 60 for all Dell monitors. The video card driver does control the monitor Hz.

Could you please mention a couple of monitor models that can be set at 75Hz at the highest possible resolution?
Also, would I be able to use the Nvidia Control Panel, presented in the 2nd link you provided, in order to configure my Intel HD Graphics 520 card?

The factory default Hz is 60 for almost all Dell monitors. The only monitor we sell that can do higher at maximum resolution is the $599.99 S2716DG which can do though its DisplayPort = 2560x1440 60Hz/85Hz/100Hz/120Hz/144Hz
No, you cannot use the Nvidia for Intel. That link was just to give you an idea on how to do it.

"at the highest possible resolution" meaning at 1920, or any other close to that (eg. 1600), that may be set at 75Hz .
I (our IT dep.) will try to enable the possibility to select a custom resolution/mode according to the guide you provided and let you know of the outcome.
Thanks again for the info.

1920. You would have to explore the monitor User Guides to see what the available resolutions are at 75Hz. There are way too many of different sizes for me to list them all.
* Go here

* Click "Choose from all products"
* Choose a size/model
* Open the User's Guide

ok perfect, thank you. I will first check with our IT dep. (Monday) whether we can apply the resolution/mode customisation you proposed, and if not, I will go through the list and find a couple of 75Hz models to propose for purchase.
Enjoy the weekend.
