hhiggins,

Do the OSD Factory Reset and tell me if the colors look better.

Here's just something to check, I just got this monitor on Thursday, and something I noticed when I first plugged it in, my video properties defaulted to 16bit colour instead of 32. It made a pretty big difference to me.

I just got this monitor last week and am having the same problems with pink tint. It is especially noticeable with gray. I've set everything to default and ran nVidia's display optimization program.....still pink. I've resorted to adjusting the red settings on the monitor itself, but I get really unbalanced colors. Another thing that I didn't find mentioned anywhere is that the colors have a "blocky character". If I look at the explorer bar, instead of solid gray, I see a "blocky" transition to a lighter shade of gray on the left side. Odd....

Ok, here it is. This is after running nVidia display optimization wizard....if I don't run it, it's worse. I've highlighted the pink blocky sections on my toolbar...I see it everywhere.

It is not my video card as I have swapped with 2 other displays and they look fine. I have 2 other Dell monitors, a 2005fpw (which I love) and an ancient 1501fp. I got this Dell E228WFP based on my previous positive experiences of those 2 monitors.

samuell,

Get it replaced. If you have a service tag number associated with your monitor, you may use Chat or Email support to setup the monitor exchange. If you only have an Order number associated with the monitor, you must call in, 1-800-624-9896. They will need the following information -
20 digit PPID number on back of monitor
Name, address, phone, email address
Order number
Issue
Troubleshooting done

Ok, got my replacement a few days ago and hooked it up. Same, exact problem! I thought this was really odd, so I decided to hook up the analog VGA inputs and the problem with pink tints/blocks seemed to go away.

Is this monitor not designed for use with DVI? That would really terrible since I prefer using DVI. I would also guess that maybe it was people using DVI inputs that are reporting the color issues.

samuell,

The issue lies with either the video card drivers or the video card itself.

The DVI issue occured on 2 different computers with 3 different video cards and 2 different drivers. The video cards were nvdia 5200, 6200, and 8400. I thought it may have been the video card so I actually replaced the 6200 with an 8400, same issue. I plugged the monitor on an old computer that has the Intel integrated analog VGA video and found the problem isn't there. However it doesn't support the native resolution, so I can't be 100% sure. I think it is odd and unlikely that it is the video cards or drivers causing this since I've tried several different ones on different computers. I will try this yet again on another computer with a different video cards and post results.

Ok, tried this on yet another computer. Problem is less noticeable, but still there. What hasn't changed at all is the pink/yellow tint. Tried nvidia color calibration and still has same problem. I know it's not a video card or driver issue b/c I connected my 2 other Dell monitors and they're totally fine. I think it's a problem that THIS monitor has with DVI and certain video cards.

samuell,

I know you have Reset to Factory defaults, but go ahead and play around with the contrast and see if the pink tint goes away. Also, try the other Color Temperature Settings (Normal sRGB, Blue, Red) and tell me if the pink tint goes away.

All,

Below is what I intend to send to engineering. Did I miss anything?

Two E228WFPs with pink/yellow tint blocky sections on toolbar using DVI (VGA is fine) -

Tried 3 different video cards (nvdia 5200, 6200, and 8400). Other monitors (2005fpw, 1501fp) look good on DVI.
