E228WFP Power Save Function

Greetings,

I see everyone is having issues with their monitor not coming back from Power Save even when you drop a brick on the keyboard. After searching the forum and the cd that came with the monitor, I see no way to turn off power save mode for it. I ask everyone out there if they know of a way to turn off the power save mode because it is really annoying to have to power down my system, just so I can see something again. Without any control over this or solutions posted in the forum, Dell has dropped down a notch in my respect meter.

It's a E228WFP plugged in via DVI. I just want to turn off power save(if it doesn't act right) and I should I have that choice.

Thanks,

Jeremy

this power save mode function is being controlled by your operating system. which operating system are you using? i suppose there are people out there who could assist you.

dont jump to conclusions abt dell on your respect meter yet. if you're using windows xp or vista, you can go to the power options in control panel and control how much time will elapse before the monitor is sent to power save mode.

I'm using XP pro and have all power save options turned off (can't stand them), yet I leave my house and come back, the monitor has gone into power save mode. If there is a hidden power mode option in the OS, i may have over looked it. Don't take me as hating on Dell at the moment, but you would think a solution to this problem would exist. It appears if you search "power mode" in the forums, a few more people are having this problem.

ATI card, latest drivers(don't use Catalyst), XP patched to the brim.

I can't help but laugh because I recycled a CRT that worked better with lines through the image than a brand new LCD.

is your bios having some power save options as well? some bioses do, go check it out. or how abt maybe your house had a power trip and the computer auto restarted? i dunno, there may be alot more other things besides the OS then since you said the OS had all power saving turned off...

which drivers are you using if not catalyst?

JFKWareagle,

It has got to be an operating system setting. The monitor OSD has nothing about powersave modes.

* Right click anywhere on the desktop
* Click Properties
* Click the Screen Saver tab
* Choose one and set it for one minute (or whatever you want)
* Click Apply
* Click the settings or Power button to the right of the globe
* You should be on the Power Schemes tab
* Under the heading Power Schemes choose Home/Office Desk
* Under Settings for Home/Office Desk
- Turn off monitor = Never
- Turn off hard disks = Never
- System standby = Never
* Click Apply
* Click the Advanced tab (if listed)
remove any checks
* Click Apply- OK if you made any changes
* Click the Hibernate tab
remove any checks
* Click Apply - OK

I had my E228WFP LCD replaced.  Revision A02 solved the problem.  I had problem with Revision A00.

I just purchased an E228WFP and have been experiencing the dreaded power saver problems. The issue is NOT with the settings within Vista. I can be working in the PC and simply push the power button on the monitor, immediately press it again and not be able to get back into my computer. No amount of mouse movement or key presses will bring the monitor out of the power saver mode. I have a Dell Dimension with an ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series video card. I had absolutely no issue with my previous monitor (until the thing started smoking). I addition, we have 8 of these identical monitors at my office and are not experiencing these issues.

How does one determine what version of this monitor they have? This issue is quite annoying as I must leave the monitor on all the time if I hope to be able to use my PC.

Any suggestions for a fix out there? Don't waste my time with suggestions about the OS power settings. This issue is definitely inherent to the monitor and the the OS.

Thanks

Look at the back of your E2338WFP LCD panel, there is a hardware revision label.  If it is revision A00, A02 solved my problem.

I checked. Mine is A00. How did you go about getting Dell to replace the monitor? I just bought the thing last weekend.

If you can explain how you got dell to replace it, I'm sure that would help to ease the frustration that many have. I do find it hard to believe that Dell would push this outdated monitor onto us if a REV A02 existed and we still get REV A00. Simply amazing.:mansad:

I should not have to spend 30 minutes on the phone with Dell Support and I shouldn't have gotten an outdated monitor in the first place. Hopefully I will see a reply soon on how to get it replaced with a decent monitor.

BTW: I still have the power Save Function problem. At this time, I don't regret buying from Dell, they have just let me down after so many years of using their products.

Ok. So Dell moderator deleted my original replied.  I'm just going to say what I did.  I decided to return the whole system (quad system + E228WFP) all together because Dell was saying it's not their problem.  I said there are many posts in the Dell forum about the Power Save Function problem and it's not an isolated issue.  I gave up and I asked to speak with RMA department to get the process started to ship everything back.  I'm within my 21 days period.  The gentleman in the RMA department listen to my issue and told me not to ship it back because he wanted to ship me a replacment E228WFP.  I sat tight for 15 minutes while he did his paperwork and a week later, I have revision A02 E228WFP.  I test it and it's good.  Issue is gone now.  Since I did not mention the gentleman who helped me, I hope Dell moderator don't delete this thread.  Thanks.
