The E193 FP is Dell's standard 19 inch monitor and it's analog only using the VGA port on the video card of the computer. The 1905 FP is the digital upgrade monitor and can cost from $50 to $200 extra, depending on the particular sale. Most folks will tell you to go with the digital and if the cost is OK then go for it. I have two analog and two digital LCD's in this office, two are Dell and two are Samsung. I'm not sure I can see much of a difference, but they are all in different rooms and not side by side. For $50 I'd go with the digital, for $200 I wouldn't. I doubt the grandkids will notice a difference. You may wish to go to a computer store to compare side by sides.

By the way, chances are your video card on the 4400 is analog only anyway. If you only have the VGA connector on the computer you can still hookup a 1905FP to the VGA port, but it will not be a digital signal. Again, for the grandkids and at $303, the 193 may be the way to go.
From a quick Google, it appears the 4400 came with a GeForce3 Ti200 - a card which does support DVI output. It's easy enough to tell if you look at the card, in addition to the "normal" blue VGA port there will be a rectangular white port for DVI output.
