Graphics Card & Display Help - 2007WFP

I got my 2007WFP today and I am very happy with the monitor.

However, I'm not happy with my old video card. It's a GEForce 3 Ti200 (I've updated to the latest drivers).

I've tried the screen resolution at 1680 x 1050 (both normal and large font mode), but I find the print hard on my eyes (it's very fine).

At the moment I'm running it at 1360 x 768 - it's a good size, but the words look terrible - really bad quality.

I would like to get another (AGP) nVidia Graphics Card that has a DVI-D connector.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I would also appreciate any suggestions as to what I could do to improve the quality of my screen fonts. (The graphics are great - it's only the letters which are bad).

We would be glade to assist you in finding a good video card for your system.  BUT, we do not know what your system is.   Tell us the Model number please and how much you are willing to spend.

Since you are using a very old Ti200 card, you are probably not a gamer per se, so when you give use the model number of your system, we can guide you to a few cards that should not be expensive for your needs.

I don't have a model number for my system - it is home made!!! My graphics and sound cards are the oldest components.

I got a new motherboard last December (bit disappointed with what I got - didn't do enough research). So I am limited by what it can do.

It's an MSI K8T Neo2-fv.20 It supports 8x/4x AGP Cards

At this particular second in time I am thinking of: (I assume they will work in my system)

GeForce 6600+HIS GV-N66256DP-E

GeForce 6600GT+HIS GV-N66T128VP
GV-N66T128VP-E

GeForce 6800 GV-N68128DH

They are all fanless (I am trying to build a silent PC).

So if anyone has had any experience with any of these graphics cards, I would love to hear your opinions.

I can't comment on the other cards you have listed since I've only used Matrox cards in my systems, so if you're not a gamer, I would recommend a Matrox graphics card, like the P650. It has two digital ports so you can run two monitors at the same time and is rock solid on 2D; its drivers are regularly updated and rarely cause problems unlike some of the other cards out there. It's also fairly inexpensive, the low end new is about $130. If you don't mind Ebay, you could probably get it for less than $100.

AGP slot cards......( What is your power supply rating ? )

6600 card is fair for gaming

6600 GT is better than the plain 6600, but still only fair  ( Had this one and it played games well enough )

7600 GS card is slightly better

7600 GT card agp if you can find one is the better one to have.  Cost over $150.00 but is rated by many as a good gaming card

If you're a gamer, you may want to hunt down an ATI Radeon X850XT 256MB AGP, which many consider the best gaming AGP graphics card at a reasonable price. However, you'd need aftermarket cooling to keep it quiet. A quieter, but almost-as-fast solution would be an ATI Radeon X800XL 256MB AGP. Note that you don't have to be fanless to be silent --Arctic Cooling and Zalman make great quiet cooling fans for graphics cards.

The Geforce 7800GS is the highest-end nVidia graphics chip available in AGP format if you're buying new, but it's pricey. The 7600GS is a lot cheaper, but definitely lower performance. From what I've found, the 7600GT is not available in AGP format. You could also look for a used 6800GT or 6800 Ultra, though once again with the Ultra, you'd probably want an aftermarket cooler.

On the other hand, if you really want a card for other things than games (i.e., video playback, photo editing) you shouldn't have to spend nearly as much. At the $80-100 price point, the Geforce 6600GT, or Radeon X1600 Pro cards should do what you want.
